Longer term TRT guys.

What negative side effects have you experienced related to the testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) as you got older.

Have you found you had to increase your dose to maintain healthy T levels as the years go by or is it pretty static?

Do you donate blood? One of the long term side effects I read about was high "hemoglobin" and the counter for guys on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) was to donate blood...

Pretty sure I'll have to be on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) here soon and was wondering what people had expranced long term.

My doc has been on it over 20 years and has no problems. His physique looks like that of a 21 year old. He is 60 something and has sex 4 times a week still. I would recommend donating blood every 4 months. You don't have to increase the dose at all as long as you aren't doing like 200mg shots.

How often do long term guys get blood work done? Once you have everything figured out... I can see someone new to HRT doing it every 3-4 months but how about someones that's been on for years?

what's the difference? hemoglobin build up shouldn't change simply with age should it?

No it shouldn't. But say you've been doing testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for 5-10 years and you know spot on your dose and how often you need to get blood drawn etc at that point does one or could one reduce some of the monitoring?

Not that it's a big deal just wondering because HRT/TRT is a lifetime deal really and getting lab work every 4 months might get old after 20years, labs can be decently cheap for blood work (I paid less then 100.00) and many insurance companies will pay for it a least a few times a year.

i see what your saying. Honestly I'm not sure. I didn't know about the hemo build up until Det mentioned it n another thread.

My next BW I'll probably have them check it.

I got this last time: Estradiol, serum; Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH); Luteinizing Hormone (LH); Testosterone, serum; Hematocrit; hemoglobin; mean corpuscular volume (MCV); mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH); mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC); red cell distribution width (RDW); percentage and absolute differential counts; platelet count; red cell count; white blood cell count; A:G ratio; albumin, serum; alkaline phosphatase, serum; ALT (SGPT); AST (SGOT); bilirubin, total; BUN; BUN:creatinine ratio; calcium, serum; carbon dioxide, total; chloride, serum; creatinine, serum; globulin, total; glucose, serum; potassium, serum; protein, total, serum; sodium, serum...

Lol... Still need t3/t4 and some extra kidney/liver tests, LDL, HDL before I'll be happy.

Oh I probably should get free test also

After you and your doc are comfy with where you're at, I think 6months is typical.

I do blood work every 3 months. I have done this since I was in my early-20's and was competing as a national level body builder. A great old-timer with whom I had the pleasure of spending many hours discussing AAS, Dr. Frederick Hatfield (AKA Dr. Squat), encouraged me to do this and I am glad I took his advice.

The knowledge you garner is invaluble. I would encourage everyone to get blood work done no less than twice a year if for no other reason than to develop a history that you can use for reference later on.

I started HRT early last year and the fact that I had years of blood work was the basis for explaining to my urologist that my normal test levels were around 1000 ng/dl for most of my adult life. I had blood work that showed that back 15 years. Once I explained that to him and showed him the blood work, he agreed that my level of 579 ng/dl was actually low for me and put me on 200 mg a week + Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) + ADex. My numbers are back in the 1000+ range consistently now and I feel great again.

So, direct answer to your question - get blood work done frequently no matter who you are.

Regards.

I probably dont get it done enough, but every six months or every time there is a change in meds, follow it up with bloodwork.

great words Cashout.

Only negatives for me

body hair increase (maybe a increase in loss on top)
acne

I think all my negatives are from DHT and am starting to work on that. (Yes I have watched my estrogen adn AI's)

Your starting to DHEA supplement? Ive read that is a good thing to monitor and supplement if needed for TRT.

DHT not DEA

I will read up more one DEA but I am trying to inhibit DHT.
I did not quite understand your question perhaps?

Sorry I miss read that bro. No question, I read it as Dhea for some reason.

Since I'm talking about it:

About DHEA:

"TRT can suppress DHEA and Pregnenolone (adrenal fatigue) and the symptoms are pretty close to the initial low test symptoms.. Or It does in most men. This is a common way your body responds to the fact that it is not making testosterone any more.

Although*the addition of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) helps with the Pregnanolone because it helps convert Cholesterol to Pregnenolone.

Your body converts cholesterol to Pregenolone. Then from Preg -> DHEA.*

I guess a lot of guys who go on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) initially feel really good and then slowly start to feel not so good as months go by. A common reason is that the DHEA and Pregnenolone deficiences that are created by testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) take some time to bring symptoms to the surface.*

So a lot of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) docs alps have clients supplement and monitor DHEA

I think this is all so my problem cause I have the acne and unwanted hair growth...
Have you found anything interesting to inhibit dht?
I was think of try some stinging nettel tea and also supplement with saw platteo

Other then hair loss on the head and growth elsewhere won't high DHT increase sex drive? Unless you have a swollen prostrate or are worried about hair why would you want it lower?
