"I am a 31, 5'5" 158# highland games athlete, rugger and former sprinter.
I have been reading and researching sites like yours (wow talk about info), 1fast400,and many others trying to learn about, understand and decipher all the steroid, PS, and PH fact from fiction.
Problem is there are so many drastically differing opinions, experiences, "facts", and bias that I really can't get a hold on things.
I seem more confused now than before.
If you read these posts, you'll hear: "PHs suck", "PHs have done me wonders", "the sides are horrible", "I didn't experience any sides", "take it with this", "take it stand alone" about the same product.
Now I do realize that different folks will react or not react to certain supplements and gear differently than others. So there will always be some wavering of opinions. But there has got to be a baseline to tell whether or not what you're getting is worth the time, money and effort.
My main goals for supplementation are based on gaining clean muscle mass in order to help counterbalance the weights we throw and to help the recovery that my body undergoes from these intense-punishing sports. I take in plenty of protein, vitamins and the occasional creatine.
I'm not looking to deadlift 800# or bulk up to a striated 230#. I'm not trying to look like Franco Columbo nor toss a shot 70'. Just trying to get the most out of what my body can give me on the field and off within reason.
I have used Animal M-Stak and had better training than ever before, and my useage of Animal Pak has helped my all around health the last year. I'd like to find what other legal PHs or PSs that I can try to help continue competing and getting stronger, especially on my hectic schedule as a father, husband, employee, athlete, and coach.
I have asked this questions on boards and I've usually been blasted or told to suck it up and use gear. But in my line of work anything currently legally banned (directly or indirectly) or illegal is just not an option. My training partner already uses Animal Stak and plans on using Animal Test but I worry about the side effects he may experience.
For some folks, like myself, gear is just not an option and we have to understand that this means there are side effects that we must deal with and counteract.
I have looked at Dermabolic products like Metacort, S1+, and Norderm as well as some other PHs and PSs. So if there are those that have used these products, protected themselves, and want to share with a fellow athlete, please feel free to give me some 'real' insight into these and anything else along these lines. I just don't want to lose out on a wasteful or harmful product that will hurt myself or hinder my year round training.
