Metformin hcl 500 mg is a widely prescribed medication for managing Type 2 diabetes. It works by improving the body's sensitivity to insulin and reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver, helping to lower blood sugar levels. Often considered the first-line treatment, Metformin HCL is effective in controlling blood sugar without causing significant weight gain. It can be used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications. Though generally well-tolerated, side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort may occur. Metformin HCL plays a vital role in diabetes management, alongside lifestyle changes like diet and exercise, to prevent complications.

Metformin, widely used for type 2 diabetes, does help lower blood sugar, but it’s not without serious drawbacks. Long-term use can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, which is directly linked to neuropathy—causing numbness, pain, or tingling in the hands and feet. While effective, its gastrointestinal side effects and potential for lactic acidosis make it risky. Many patients tolerate it poorly, and the long-term nerve damage concern is significant.
