My testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) Journey

My TRT Journey

I'm a 40yr old male with approximately 2 decades of attaining a high level of fitness and dabbling in near single digit bodyfat. Fast forward to 35 yrs old and two kids later and I find myself at 5'8" 200lbs and the heart of a lamb with a sleep cycle of rip van winkle. After several years of weight gain and being sick and tired of being sick and tired, I went to the doctor. After describing symptoms, he guessed low T. He was right. T came back at 157! He called in an androgel script (1.62%) two pumps daily and said to return in a couple weeks. Went back Tuesday, reported no improvement, and he said there was no need for more bloodwork as it is obvious I am still in the tank. He gave me a 400 mg inject there and told me to stay on androgel for 2 weeks then come back for another inject. 2 weeks after that come back for more blood.

My q's:

Shouldnt he have given me an AI?

Not that I was looking for anything but feeling better; if I'm getting 400 test every 14 days plus gel, is that not a cycle? If so I want to maximize gains and lose fat. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!!!

You are likely going to aromatise that into estrogen. Probably should have gotten an AI.

Get off the gels - especially if you have kids or a wife/girlfriend. Gels don't work well and there is risk of transfer. Gels also tend to aromatise into estrogen a lot so make sure you monitor estradiol via bloodwork if you atay on it. Gels cost a lot too in comparison to injections. Ask him to switch you to injections of test cyp. And tell him you want to self inject.

I would insist on injections only. No gel. You might not be absorbing much of the gel. Normal problem. Have an injection every 7 days at the most. Most recommend every 3.5 days to keep blood levels stabilized. My first testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) Dr. didn't prescribe an Aromatase inhibitor (AI) for me until my 6 week follow up blood work. I didn't have any symptoms of high estradiol at the time, though.
