Pretty much anyone you talk to on this board will tell you to consume more calories to gain more weight. You try to think of why this could be , why would calories help you gain muscle? How could someone consuming 5 pounds of food per week gain 5 pounds of muscle per week? Its just not humanly possible. So lets break this down, protein is a must to build muscle, without amino acids no one could add muscle. Carbs are a must to give you the much needed energy your body craves for. Everyone needs some fats, especially good fats. But then you look at calories, what do they give to your body that would benefit you in adding lbm? What if your diet was made up of all the foods you need in your diet, a correct amount of protein, carbs, efa's, and supplements. Is this a sufficient amount of food to gain a respectable amount of muscle? All in all its not, and most will tell you to consume more and more calories to keep putting on size. Food gets digested , and without enough food your body will be digesting your much needed nutrients. So say your diet consist of you eating 10 pounds of food per week, how much of this food will get digested? How much of your food is being put to good use? Ok, your not satisfied with your gains, you eat more and more calories, trying to add in some junk food every day when you find the time. Are you noticing a difference? Surpisingly, yes. Could this possibly be because you are now consuming 13 pounds of food per week persay 10 pounds of food per week? Or is it really the calories that added that extra lean muscle?
