Need a bit of Help figuring out bloodwork

You can always drain yourself. There are videos on YouTube.

You could stop taking exogenous test. I will slowly reduce your hematocrit.

Sounds like you are scared/nervous about donating blood.

I believe that Accutane is on the deferred medication list anyway so donation isn't really an option.

Just out of curiosity, if RBC got too high say 55%, then u can't donate blood...Whats the way to resolve this?

Drop the test to 100mg cruise dosage till u can pass donation?

I talked to halfwit about grapefruit. It's got a good effect that can drop RBC by up to 5-8% if needed, but at the same time it can build up drug dosages by messing with half lifes.

You still have a bit of time before you're within deferral range (~59%), just be sure to do it ASAP when you get back. Avoid B12 if possible; it can elevate blood solids, which is normally a good thing - but not in this case. :)

Edit: Oh crap, I think mprtz is right. I'd double check to verify, but I do think he's correct.

Dont they check this stuff after blood drawing? Can u not just lie and get it removed, then they toss it out. I can't imagine that they know accutane is in ur blood when they take it right then and there?

It's a question in the induction survey. Whether or not you choose to disclose the use of Accutane after donating is an ethical question that only you can answer for yourself.

Just remember that if you do, please be sure to tell them after the draw. You don't want to inadvertently kill someone because you forgot to mention something.

I do know they screen for diseases and certain drugs, but don't know if they check for things like Accutane.

I think you should plan on doing a self-phlebotomy. Just search for it on YouTube and I am sure you can learn how to drain yourself. Have someone with you in case you pass out or have complications.

It's a permanent deferral, but if you plan on staying with Accutane, you can always inquire with a doctor about getting a script for therapeutic phlebotomies. Just start off with something about how you've been told you make too many red blood cells and be vague. It'll just take a quick finger prick to verify that you do indeed have a moderately high hematocrit.

They don't check for the presence of deferred medications, but as you said you could call the next day and say that you just realized that you are on a medication that is on the deferral list, and they will process the donation accordingly.

I have no idea if that will work more than once though.
