I am new to this whole thing. My name is shane. I am 5'10" and 244 lbs. I am ready to start getting in shape. I want to lose weight and bulk up a little. not a ton. What advice could you offer me? Links to pages would be appreciated! Also do you have tips on staying motivated? I don't have a good support system so its hard to stay motivated.

Thanks for your help!

Don't know how others feel but I've lost the weight twice. Once after military with working out, eating healthy and good cardio a few times a week which helped me greatly. I ran and played basketball a few times a week with some hard core players that ran my rear off until I was as good or better then most again. I've also done weight training workouts with a cardio based speed with great results(for a work physical they once hooked me up to every machine they had, had every nurse and doctor check me out because my they couldn't beleive where my heart rate and Bp were, I didn't have a runners body so they said it was extremely abnrormal according to them for a guy my size to have a what they only see in hard core marathoners) The feeling you get after week three is a great motivator too. I'm an endorphin/adrenaline junkie and always will, the be best drugs in the world next to anabolics for me.
My first marriage was hell, and I put weight back on drinking like an idiot. I strated with Atkins and then back into my old workout and running routine. No work out partner second time but first time around that was a great help to me was having a work out partner for a motivator. If you hang around the gym enough you'll usally end up working out with people. For me it got to the point after a few years I couldn't get my lifts in because someone was always bothering me for a spot or wanting to jump in yet they couldn't do the same stack I was so it was a total pita. It's why the second time I chose solo route, I didn't have a lot of time with work, side jobs to get me out of debt the ex caused and training a dog.
A lot more info out their more current then anything I've done or know about though. Whatever you do don't give up. The net is your friend just remember if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Keep a journal n photos so you can go back a few months later and really see the progress n results it is a great motivator. Only think I say about Atkins if you don't want to drop to much watch it closely. The weight loss snuck up to fast and I found myself way to skinny needing to put 20lbs back on fast. I thought all the protein I was eating was enough and it turned out not to be.

Calories in vs out. Get your diet at a calorie deficit, add some cardio and your body has no other choice than to eat some fat.

I would suggest aiming at one or the other for now...in terms of losing weight over gaining muscle.

Maybe toss in ECA

Hi,
I used to be fat, too.I have taken some simple tips to change that.I hope they can also be effective
for you.In the past,I was fat and lazy.As a result,I couldn't pass my PE test. Then my dad told me to exercise more.He made me do sit-ups and push-ups every night. At first,I felt exhausted. However
after several days,I did it much better and I could get a good mark in PE test.As you can see, exercise is very important. You said that you couldn't stay motivated.Finding a parter is a good way.You can exercise together and remind each other. It's necessary to make a plan if you can't find any parter.
Also, eating properly is an important part of losing weight.I don't mean you should eat less. There is no need to pay much attention to portion control.Eating normal healthy food is ok.Don***8217;t eat too much.In order to keep fit,I eat all kinds of food but I don't get fatter because of exercising.Otherwise,it***8217;s impossible to bulk up.
