Sure you guys are sick of people asking how to get their calves to grow, but i'm stumped. Mine pretty much stopped growing. Everything else is growing but my frikken calves!! Any one have any good workouts I can do?? All i've been doing so far is calf raises on the leg press machine. Seem to be getting a little stronger, but no size increase. I'm eating like a pig too, and the rest of me is growing so don't think its my diet.
PLEASE help me out on this.

Have you tried training calves ED?

Some people preach against it, some for it. I've tried both ways and for me to get my calves to grow I ended up having to train them ED with heavy sets.

EVERY day??!! what 3 days a wk?? or 5?? I usually only train 3 SOMETIMES 4 days per wk. I've NEVER tried training them everyday, but I will give it a shot. This 1x per wk aint working. Now when u say heavy sets, how many reps are you doing?? I've been doing sets of 450lbs on the leg press machine for 30-40 reps w/o much luck. Is doing them on the leg press machine still ok?? SHould I increase the poundage?? Should I train heavy for calves all the time or mix it up, heavy 1 day light the next?? thanks

have you tryed doggcrapp style calf work?

Or mabey rest pause calf work i am sure that could work.

training to failure and keeping reps at about 6-8 worked ok for me , but my calves dont grow no more trust me i know the feeling guys.

BUt its ok i have accepted the fact that i will never have big calves ....so i just pull and squat and call it a day

To some people it makes no sense (my thoughts exactly when I first heard the idea) but somehow it works for people who have a hard time getting them to grow. Try it and see what happens, if it doesn't work there are plenty of other approaches (DC, etc).

i'll give it a try. U still didn't answer my ? though. When u say ed is that 5-6 days a wk or just ed I train(which would be 3-4 days a wk)

Calves are a complete waste, that is two lbs more i can hold in my gut and still make weight at 275.

For a BB, calves are sometimes one of the hardest and most fickle muscles to grow. Fact is if youre a 200 lb guy, you are constantly working your calves with high reps at 200 lbs all day just by walking around. High reps will not cut it.

To get them to grow, you must pound them with low reps (6-10), extremely heavy weights, full range of motion (at least 5 inches up and down) and a full 5 seconds of holding a complete contraction at the top of the rep. Also fill out both sides, make sure youre pointing the toes inward on some sets and outward on others. The weight is heavy enough if you start burning out by the 4th rep or so. If you hit 10 reps without screaming out that last rep, the weight is too light. Pack it on.

Do them twice a week, once with your leg workout and the other determined by your split. I do them about every 3 days or so. I've successfully added 2 inches to my calves over the past 2.5 years doing this. It's a bitch to train them this way, but you will see results.

Bula

My calves are 20 inches and this is the routine that got 'em there.

Freestanding calf raises 2x12-warmup

Standing calf machine raises 3x8-heavy

Seated calf 3x8-heavy

Freestanding 3 position 21's. As many sets to failure as you can stand.
These are done off a platform with something to hold on to. Like the above post you vary your foot position. 7 reps pidgeon toed. 7 toes out, 7 toes forward.
Stay with this one for a while, and you will see results. Good Luck.
