Online personal trainers course

They are almost all if not all home study optional. Pick the one that suits you best, they are not all exactly alike.

its a money racket. thats why there are so many no-nots (kind way of putting it) that are personal trainers. anyone can get ceritfied whether you know how to lift or not.

That's why I have never taken a course.

If you want to work as a personal trainer out of a gym, most of them around here require you to be certified. They hire you and charge $30/hr personal training and pay you $10.

If you train people on your own time, you don't need to be certified, your physique should speak for itself. And you'll make more money.

ISSA so far has a good reputation as far as education, if they were all crap then nobody would value the certification. So like in the computing world, if they all completely sucked, they would die out quickly - which hasn't been the case.

Different certs for different people, they more or less lean towards one thing or another. Do your DD (due dilligence) and research which is best for you. Be prepared to drop around $500 or so for one certification, ISSA has multiple as do others.

I am really sorry but ain't no guy gonna train me unless he can out lift me or is larger than I am, no this isn't basketball or football this is a sport that you must practice what you preach, not just talk out your ass cause you have 10 certs, you know you see the guys who train in the "clubs" with 14" arms and having everyone do exercises on that blow up ball, spare me...

Nothing wrong with that really. But you could say the same about a dietician. Look at Chris Aceto, he isn't huge, but he has planned out diets for plenty of big guys and made them look great.

So really the situation is more complex than:
Certification = Training/diet guru (depending on the cert in question)
or
Certification = Studious pipsqueak who doens't know what it takes to really get it done

Some people with certs know thier shit, some are just good at passing tests and not really understanding Jack D. Squat.

i know a couple of issa certs and they are just as lost as anybody else. its not the people fault its the info being taught. anyone can be knowledgeable with any cert and anyone can be a dingleberry with any cert. its a money racket plain and simple. the work put in before or after the cert is what counts. if your employer requires a cert then get the cheapest one and do the leg work on your own to gain knowledge. i was certified but it lapsed cause i wouldnt give them more money. shit i know more now than i did when i got my cert. i still train folks on line and at the gym. still learning all the time as well.

id pay IA or IH before id pay the two issa trainers i know. shit one trainer i know graduated from college with a bachelors in physical fitness and i woudnt let him touch me. he knows the bones, muscles, tendonds and ligaments by heart, so what? book sense and training often times dont walk in harmony to say it nicely.

Mudge, Would you ever in your right mind sit and listen to what comes out of dieticians mouth, I have never yet heard one that knew what the hell they were talking about, they live in this world of text books and not reallity, sure lab studies have some weight, but experience is the key, would you listen to fat smoking doctor tell you how to quit smoking and how to lose weight?...

Just because somebody's not big doesn't mean they don't know what they're talking about. Even Ronnie has a trainer. Although I do agree that the majority of personal trainers are full of shit

In my book, size comes with experience, I am not saying every huge guy knows his shit, but I would say most do and of course what works for them will not always work for you...

i too am looking to pursue personal training as a career, perhaps get my cscs, a few other certs, and see where it all takes me... after this year i will have my bachelors in Health/Phys ed.... i took all the anatomy/physiology/sports medicine/nutrition/exercise theory/ and all the general health courses i could to learn as much as i could..

Dirk gave me some solid advise on this subject... And it makes more sense to be self-employed. I do agree that a good physique and communication skills will play a larger role than most of the certs on a resume... especially when you advertise yourself

Just looking at my options for this summer and trying to decide on a reputable place to get certified by... what would you guys recommend????

ifta is as cheap as it gets. less than 200 bucks and you got you paper. 1 day of class work, with a written exam the sameday, and the pratical application part. maybe an 8 hour day with 10-15 hours of studying before hand.

i train on my own and its much less headache and more money. the online training is sweet as well once you can get your clientel built up. takes a while.

im not necessarily looking to go the cheap route... especially if there are better places out there... whats a $200 certification worth to me, if no one knows the program? or if they do, they realize that its just what you said.....a cheap "tuition charge," then 24 hrs of studying and then a certification.

does everyone know ifta? is there some place better?

Daan, some employers will actually prefer a certain certification over another. So take a look at the places you want to work and see if you can find anything first perhaps, anonymously or whatever.

Then eventually to make more money you want to of course break off into your own business, ACE supposedly covers some business and selling aspects as well.

I feel like I see your point to some degree, and I remember Dillet and others leaving their dieticians behind to do their own thing disgruntled and all. But Aceto has competed and he has put out winning physiques. This could get to be a long ass debate though, and besides, I like pizza and burgers so being 6% bodyfat isn't going to happen anytime soon for me :D
