Okay, so I got another 20 lbs of Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate whey protein (2 10 lbs bags) in on Friday and I was filling up one of my 5lbs tubs from the bag when I noticed a few changes:
- The product is now called 100% Whey Gold Standard
- 24g of protein is listed instead of 23g (22g according to their website) (this doesn't necessarily mean the product has changed; might just be a new nutritional analysis with slightly different results)
- The back of the bag used to list Double Rich Chocolate, Vanilla Ice Cream (that stuff is horrible!), and Strawberry I think. It never listed their Chocolate Mint flavor. The new bag lists just two flavors: the standard Double Rich Chocolate and Rocky Road. I noticed the the Rocky Road includes not just the usual sweetner: Acesulfame Potassium, but it also listed Sucralose (Splenda), which I consider the absolute best artificial sweetner.
- Checked the website. It lists Rocky Road and Tropical Punch for the "Gold Standard." These are both new flavors as I have never seen them before. The Tropical Punch also has sucralose in it.
- The website does not list chocolate as Gold Standard, but I think this is probably done to allow sellers to move out their old inventory. Otherwise there might be problems with customers complaining that they didn't get the 'new' version.
- The 10 lbs bag now contains something like 10.36lbs.
I know that none of this is really all that big of a deal, but I spend so much time drinking ON chocolate that I'm interested.
If somebody orders and gets some Rocky Road or Tropical Punch, I would love to hear about the taste. I don't like their Vanilla (the worst whey I've ever had!) or their chocolate mint (smells good, but the taste isn't so good), and I have heard that their Strawberry is pretty bad as well, but their Chocolate is the best whey protein I've ever tasted so far.
