I started running today and goal is to run a mile without stopping. My cardio is in the gutter, I can run 0.3 of a mile before I have to start walking. My question is what is a good way to pace myself to accomplish my goal? Meaning try to run 0.4 next time and then 0.5? Any help would be appreciated.

I've been there bro. What worked for me was keeping the speed low & running the full mile. After I got the full mile part down the. I worked at cutting the time it took to complete

for example
1st try - 12 min mile
2nd. - 11 min mile
3rd.....

I cut my mile time to around 8 mins. I couldve continued but I prefer longer cardio at a lower speed now that I'm I'm better shape. Worked for me...should work for you too. If it tAkes 16 mins first try don't get discouraged...just work at it and you'll watch the time take less & less as your body adjusts

Great advice, I think a large part of it is mental as well. After you get it done once your kind of over that barrier

Have someone throw 2-3 mean-ass Pitbulls or Rottweilers behind U, U will learn to meet Ur goals rather quickly!!

Make sure U put muzzles on those bastards!! Hell, dress up in one of those big ass suits the police wear when training those German Shepherds, that shit should get U running alongside really good endurance!!

Are you really running, or jogging? If you are RUNNING then try jogging without stopping.

Or, simply make sure to finish your mile and don't allow yourself to walk for more than say - 30 seconds before you start your jog again.

like massive said, start at a slow jog and work on quickening your times. thats how I started too. Also controll your breathing, I started by counting 4 steps inhale and another 4 exhale and kept that rhythm untill I felt like I needed more air then go down to 3 and 3 than 2 and 2. It may sound weired but I did that (counting steps) for like a week untill it became second nature. Controll your breathing bro.

Oh, that stuff biggin said, will def work faster. lol good stuff man.
