i currently got down to 187lbs... going for 165 i was wondering if anyone knew about IPA? and whats the fee membership requirements etc.. its a tested meet so i figure i may fair well with a low body weight... im doing 265 for reps now should i cut down to low reps like 3 and 2? if i cut calories and diet fast now will i lose strength or should i go at a slow weight loss pace like 5lbs a month?

youll need a shirt since everyone there will more than likely have one
heres a link for the IPA

thats true, but he can still bench raw. plenty do, he just won't be putting up the same weight as the guys in shirts, but thats ok.
at the last meet i went to, a guy in the 198s i think (he was short but muscular... coulda been in the 220s but i don't think so) put up 500 raw.

you know if you lift in amateur divsion and they test you, you will have to pay for it. just lift in the pro division to avoid this.

and remeber they have a 24 hour weigh in so you only need to get down to 175 or so and dehydrate the night before. weigh in the next morning then rehydrate for 24 hours. youll be in the 165s and weigh 175 or better. aint dat sumpin?

nothing wrong with going raw your first meet. make sure you attend a meet before you lift in one to see wtf is going on. thgey got rules and stuff you need to be aware of. like the 60 second clock, squat depth, rack commands from the head judge, etc.....

i think i might do as you said pullin aand just attend this year.. and come back next year stronger and more knowledgable about whats going on... i can weigh 175 and dehydrate down to 165? thats perfect.. i guess i better attend b4 i go all out in a meet nothing worse than calling out a number and not getting credit for it because my form was a smidge off... thanx for your advice... hey pullin dont pros go on gear though? if i enter as pro im screwing myself im only 22 and natural if i go against juicers my numbers arent gonna be as great.. but like youve said b4 its man against steel not man against man

i think ill go for 1 rep maxs in squats bench and dead to see where i stand first.. whats a good total number for 165'ers something in the 900-1000's
my bench is weak.. but my deads and squats are amazing

bro dont worry about what other lifters are doing. as i said before meets are abouyt setting new prs. thats all you can do.

as far as 165s go julie scanlon benched 465, squatted 600 and pulls over 500. she weighed 160. feel better now?

and yes some of the pros juice but not al. i was just trying to save you some money. the rules read if you dont specify which division you want to be in they automatically enter you in the pro division.

if you truly want to lift in a clean fed enter usapl or aau. they have meets everywhere.

check out their web sites for a meet closet to you. you dont have to wait til next year to compete. go watch a meet then find one to do. IPA may not be the best starting meet anyway. aau is more newbie friendly as is usapl. apa, nasa, wabdl are some others which i think you may like better.

Franco Columbu's best bench was 480lbs raw under 190lbs body weight.

The guy beats Franco...at pretty much the same weight. Wow.

franco columbo wasn't a powerlifter.

I am almost positive he was both. I know he did other strenght type stuff, and i could be wrong but i think he did some strongman as well.

and that is the gym i joining in a month or so. I actually need to find out when my contract is up where i am now.

all i know is he was short as hell. did you guys see the clip of him breaking his leg in one of the early SM comps? carry a frig or sumpin. it was nasty.

i looked at his website and it says he was a powerlifter but doesn't say when or what- which makes me think he did some bench comp. or a guest lift or something and then called himself a powerlifter- but if you guys say he did strongman stuff, i believe you.
:)

bill kaz was a strongman.. columbo was not.. im with sug he prolly did some bench comps but thats a vanity thing.. look at johnnie jackson he calls himself a powerlifter now, prolly cuz he hasnt won any bodybuilding contests in years.....

Johny Jackson was a powerlifter bro, before he was a bodybuilder. I am almost positive Columbo took part in strongman, their was also pitt steeler who did a few strongman back in the day, it was not as big as it is now, and i don't think peolple trained year round for it back then. i could be wrong though.
