Pre workout

For both gym workouts and heavily endurance oriented activities like surfing, basketball, boxing, grappling, and tennis, I have the most energy after a Zone/Isocaloric (33-40% carbs, 30-33% protein, 30-33% fats) type meal. Carbs are the bodies preferred energy source, but left to their own devices can send the body on a roller coaster ride. Combining them with protein and fats evens out and extends their release. Protein wards off catabolism during intense activity. Fats also have positive benefits towards anabolic/androgenic hormone levels.

ya micheal, because the carb spikes you insulin and insulin in the "transporter" hormone, the fat and the protein will be shutteld right you your cells

at 3:30pm

The logic is that the glucose fills up glycogen stores in the liver giving you energy for your weigth lifting. The protein is included because protein should be in every meal just to keep the total daily intake high.

During lifting the body uses the glycogen stored energy. Once the stores are depleted, the body relies on the fat stores for energy. This is why cardio comes after weigths, because once the glycogen stores are depleted by weights, fat burning begins;)
Yeah but why not walk into the gym in a fat burning state already. Insulin also hinders the secretion of growth hormone in the body so then cortisol will become dominant much more quickly which we all know is a very bad thing. Do cardio on the days you dont work out reason being is that if you do it intense enough you could possibly experience a growth hormone secretion causing speedier recovery. I would go with fat and protein.

Insulin significantly blunts cortisol production.

would an endurance preworkout meal make sense with?

3 hours pre - oatmeal
1.5 hours pre - banana/honey/whey

I drink a dextrose-whey shake 10-20 min before i get to the gym. 4 to 1 carbs to protein. Postworkout 3 to 1. I can tell a difference in size and I am staying very lean. It will keep your immune system strong as well.

Take in a dextrose/whey shake either immidiatly before or during your training. Yes you will spike your insulin and blood sugar will plung down to some low levels. Perfect time and perfect conditions to spike your insulin hard after your workout with a real high carb/protein shake with no fat. Insulin is the most anabolic hormone correct? Lets use what we got availible!

What would be a good ratio of dextrose/protein before and after workout?

different things work different for everyone. protein/fat might wrk great for one person but not another. you have to figure out what wrks best for you and your body. Personally, i consume roughly 40g of carbs about 40 min before I train and a 20g protein shake with 5g glutamine immediatly before i train. Wrks great for me and I usually have grips of energy.

id be starving in the gym. I eat a bowl of oatmeal w a shake and water bought 30 min prior to lifting. Its light on the stomach so i never feel nauseaus.

I eat every two hours or less regardless, so pre-workout and post workout have very little meaning for me.
