probably the most stupid question asked on steroidology...

I have used the smith for front squats, and shrugs for the most part, but have dicked around with it from time to time. Although i don't think it is the devil everyone makes it out to be, i would not be doing squats or any of my main movements on it.

:gay:
im telling dawg lol

the only reason i use it is when i dont have a spotter and im working to failure. but i gotta listen to dogg crapp and if uses them then they gotta serve a purpose.

I'd confirm that that is what "smythe" is first.
if i don't have a spotter, i'd use the power rack (safety rack) instead.

Just know that the bar on a SMITH Machine is weighed and balanced and only weighs 15lbs. REMEMBER this shit .

Depending on your smith machine, that can either be true or false. The bar on our smith machine weighs 65lbs, 20 lbs heavier than the standard olympic bar, and we have NO counter weights.

That would explain one of my previous statements.

no offense to dante and his doggcrap training but im not a fan of useing the smith machine to replace free weights , doggrcap training uses them a lot and i guess for all the static contraction work they are great . MOST smith machines have a incredibly light bar and are balanced so people can use much more weight than in free weights , thats why regular gym people love the so much , its a ego thing .
useing a smith machine to replace regular free weights on your major excercises takes all the balancing/stabilizer muscles out of the movement .
and as for useing them as a upside down squat to go deeper , that shit cracks me up :goof: heres a concept for ya , squat ass to the grass with free weights .

just got back from doing doggcrapp's trainng for the first time and usually i work out at home where i do 100% free wieghts because i dont have a machine. now with DC's training, you need to work till failior whcih means you should have a spotter right? so since i dont have a spotter at home or a smith machine to take away the need of a spotter, i went to my college gym and used their smith machine for squats. i hate not using free weights for squats but the reason i had to use the damn machine is because they didnt have the correct bench where the bar is elevated to get underneath. so this really pissed me off!! as far as DC's training goes, i never felt more soar in my life.

I use a smyth machine all the time and I love it.

When you don't have a spotter, the smyth is awesome.

Sure you can lift more, but I really don't care how much weight I lift. I'm sure there are some 120lb females that would make my 220lb ass look like a fool in a bench contest.... No big deal :D

ripped mass what are your stats? doing reverse squats in the smyth is the dumbest fucking thing i have ever heard of. get a grip son.

the deepest squats are done with a front squat or a overhead squat, like a snatch movement.

legs in front of you squats on the smyth to iso quads is stupid too. nothing hits quads harder than regular ol back squats with a medium stance and deep and with good form. course you gotta put some weight on the bar. thats where many get off the bus.

the reason dc uses the smyth so much is cause you dont need a spot.

nothing wrong with a smyth on ocassion but to build overall functional strength it is lacking. if you have a spotter the smyth is not needed.

BTW, upsidedown squats are the deepist squat you can do, to strengthen the lower motion of your squat.

You lie on a bench in the smith machine, and press the bar up with your feet, letting the bar down as low as possible into your body.

Hard to explain.

ive actually seen a lot of people do that and it seems pretty affective

i have never seen anybody do this. and would laugh my ass if i did.

and slick how many is a lot? you said you only been working out 3 months. i been in the gym for 41 years and have never seen this. and i can assure that no top PLer has or will implement this to improve their squat.

this movement is just another excuse not to squat.

and its "effective" slick.

in the gym i use to go to, ive probably seen 4 people do it, but the reason im thinking is that they were probably all together. and thanx for the spelling lesson Mr. Pullinbig.

Like PB i would prolly SHART my pants from laughing so hard if i did see it

Is "smyth" a codeword for Doggcrapp devotees, sort of like "homicide bomber" on Fox News?
