due to my job i cant work out till about 8:30 at night and dont finish till 10:30pm. will this effect my diet i always read that you shouldnt eat after 7pm. i take a shake before and after work out. will that effect anything in my diet.

Eat the same stuff you would around your workout time no matter what time. Good protein source and carbs post. Most of the nutrients will help rebuild your depleted system, not make you fat. Unless you load up on fat after =p.

Take your shake before and after then eat a good protein / carb meal.

I dont know who told you that but I eat everytime I wake up at night and I do just fine, I stick with fat free greakyogurt n casein shakes though so I'm not sure how much that really qualifys as "real food"

Depends on your goals, but generally you should avoid carbs after 7-8pm.
But since you workout at night those carbs will be used to replenish your muscles, not just sitting around doing nothing, so you should be fine.
Also agree with d-cal on the casein shakes, perfect final "meal".

so you pefer casein over whey. isnt casien like a time release protien

I take both casein and whey - whey for breakfast and postworkout, casein as my final meal of the day.
Casein is a time release protein, making it perfect as a final meal since it continues the muscle recovery process as you sleep. It also helps prevent muscle loss at night, but this is generally a worry only for people cutting.
Because you work out late at night, and I assume wake up early for work, casein makes sense postworkout. But you could always have a whey casein mix postworkout, that way you get the quick action of the whey and the time release of casein at the same time.

So much bro science in this lifestyle "but generally you should avoid carbs after 7-8pm. " This being one of them. I work nights so I have to eat at night, it doesn't make a difference eating at night vs eating during the day.. I've even done intermittent fasting where I fast for 16 hours then eat between 6pm and 12am.

So don't worry bro, get used to eating at night! :)

Casein is a slower digested protein than whey, which is slower than BCAAs. Dont think of one as slow and one as fast, but yes casein is slower.

And yes you should eat after working out. The no carbs after 7pm makes more sense for a person who is concerned with fat gain and working out well before dinner time.

kcals in vs kcals out will determine fat gain not what time of day you eat at.
