Pure Protein Diets do they work???

Ive heard numerous opinions in hte gym on this kind of diet some good and some bad and was just wondering what your feelings on a lean protein diet with very little carbs? is it the best way to drop weight and keep your hard earned muscle or is it just another FAD diet that when you come off it you balloon up to 500lbs???

William Llewellyn's Protein "starvation" diet is the most effective diet at burning fat I've ever used. It's 100% low-fat protein with almost no carbs.

Here's what I'm doing currently:

240g protein divided into 4 meals, all whole foods, no protein powders.

Veggies inbetween meals (no carrots, beets or peas though).

2 "cheat" meals per week the evening before workouts.

2 full body weight workouts per week.

No cardio.

Yes it's a great way to lose "fat" and it does work. As long as you have a solid/healthy plan for maintaining, you won't balloon up afterwards. Like any diet, if you go off (with no plan) and back to eating unhealthy of course you will gain it back and then some. Keep in mind it's not the type of diet you live on... In my opinion, you cycle it in and out as needed for periods of 2 to 8 weeks depending on how much you need to lose.

DocJ... on average how long do you run this diet (strict/as is)?? although I'm sure with the 2 cheat meals a week you are able to run it alot longer.
Also, by 2 full body work outs per week do you mean each body part worked hard twice in a week or just a simple full body routine done in one workout twice a week?

Usually about 4 weeks. The 2 cheats would make it possible to run longer then that though. If/when I compete again I'd could run it for 12 weeks no problem.

Yes 2 full body workouts:

Workout 1:
Squat
BB Incline
"Rack" Chins
BB Upright Rows
Dips
DB Incline Curls

Workout 2:
Deadlift
"Rack" Chins
Standing Military Press
BB Close Grip Bench
BB Curls
Calf Raises

How have your results been as far as fat loss and strength
Total bodyweight loss in 1 week = 6lbs (assuming mostly water).

Strength is fine as the cheat meal gives me a glycogen boost the night before my workouts. If I didn't have that, I'd be dragging in the gym.

Im Planning on trying a high protein diet this is pretty much the outline of it, any sugestions on how to improve it would be grateful.

Breakfast: 3x eggs with 2 slices wholemeal bread

Lunch: 2X chicken breasts with veg

pre workout: 180g tuna with red onion

post workout: 180g tun with red onion

Dinner: 2 Pollock (white fish) with veg

Before bed: 2x eggs

Im also goin to be taking multi vit, aminos and omega 3 suplements.

Looks good...even though you're only eating minimal carbs you should be able to follow that diet for some time and continue to make progress with some discipline.

Do you workout in the morning? if your workout was in the evening would you eat your cheat meal that same day?

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about that, however, if you are just substitute a chicken meal for one of your tuna meals.

Yes a.m. workout. Having your cheat meal right after a evening workout would obviously be ideal. If I got off work earlier that's what I would do.

doc i like how this diet is sounding. i was going to post a separate thread, but ill ask the question here. im gonna go to south beach in less than a month, and i wanna know the quickest way to drop weight without clen or drugs. this sounds promising...any more literature on it?

I'm sorry, the author of the article I read wasn't William Llewellyn, it was Lyle McDonald. Check this site out: www.bodyrecomposition.com

Dave Carbon- will that diet lower body fat% and tighten you?? If so I think I will do same..

It'll burn the fat off you but the toning up portion you'll need to accomplish with exercise.

ya.. I have just been searching for a good diet to stick by and this one looks great so im going to so how this works out for me!

Hey bro! I posted another response for you on the thread you started about your diet. I'd be very carefull with this type of diet due to the fact that you compete at the college level (football right??) and you NEED your carbs!! We can limit to a point but a athlete inseason needs to get enough (good)carbs.

ok.. I just pm'd you my stats and diet and workout... I guess Im inseason if you want to put it that way... I was medical redshirt due to a virus before spring practices... I still dont practice everyday with the team I was 75% released.. I do all weight trainging they do, and all exercise (warm ups, sprints, drills) all I cant do is go full pads...
