when i do mine i weigh them before cuz its easier. lets say u have a 7 oz chick breast. and ur gonna grill it. its gonna lose bout an ounce of water from cooking so i calculate for a 6 ounce breast cuz thats the portion your actually eating. same if ur gonna eat grilled shrimp. u cook em then weigh without tails cuz u dont eat em. hope this helps ya.
