question on wrist straps for deadlifts

inked1

huh?
what sort of straps should you get for deadlifting with?
and generally what sort of weight are you moving before you start using them?

I have never used straps and am unsure how they work, is it just to stop the bar from slipping out of your grip?

I actually just bought a pair a few days ago and used them for the first time today. They definately make a difference, the idea being that people when lifting heavy waste too much energy gripping the bar as opposed to lifting the weight. I can't lift that heavy but deadlift around 140 kilos for 6 reps. The straps wrap around your wrist and tighten the bar the palms of your hand, and as a result you don't feel the bar slipping out of your hands. A pretty good buy I think, and they only cost like £5. I have started using them on dumbell rows, lat pulldowns and all kinds of things

I only use straps towards the end of the set when the weight is heavier and my grip is beginning to fail. You do not want to become dependant on them. Do your first few sets without them that way your grip eventually gets stronger. Check out apt's wriststraps.....They have a website prowristraps.com I think...

since i swithced my grip to one under one over i don't need them, just chalk when i get up into the 550 range.

My gym wont let me use chalk, so I use straps on my work set. I am gonn a get some chalk though, fuck em.

don't use them anymore. use alternate grip.

I use an alternate grip, always have, my grip just flat out sucks so I have to use straps once I get past 315 or so.

I just have some cheapies from Academy, they work fine for my purposes. Use them ONLY on deads and 1-arm db rows, all other movements I can do without them.

If i were going to use straps again i would not use and alternate grip, an alternate grip is used so you don't have to use straps. Go two over, it will put your bicep in less of a position to be injured and you could possibly get some imbalances with an over under. Like i said the over under is used because straps are not, if you have them i would go two over, at least i would.

i only use straps for shrugs and dumbell rows. if my grip fails for deadlifts, i want it to get stronger and it won't if i rely on straps.
