R-alpha lipoic acid is know as the best and most universal antioxidants but it also is the perfect dietary supplement for improving insulin response/sensitivity and blood sugar control.
• Insulin Effect
R-ALA has been used to cure liver damage caused by poisonous mushrooms, alcohol, metal detoxification, oral steroids and other poisonings. All this is possible because R-ALA can remove toxic minerals from the body and R-ALA can regenerate and recover damaged liver cells, most people don't know that they have a bad liver, because you can have no problems while you could have a bad liver.

• Effects of Increased Glucose Uptake
This increase of glucose does many positive things. These include:

Increased pump-
Less fat accumulation
Increases Amino Acid transport - Increases creatine
Increased insulin sensitivity

mr.universe is this pure 99% r-Ala? Awesome price if it is. Also, any plans to add biotin to them?

I would be interested in knowing why the capsules would be 250mg. The average low carb meal only requires 100mg of pure R+ALA and the average meal only 200mg. Why would you make 250mg capsules?
I don't know anything about the purity of Universe R+ because they don't test it from what I have seen so my guess is, they don't know either. I buy stuff I need from them though.
But I know the tests for Syntrax came out less than they'd like and they wouldn't even show them to the stores selling the R. I have friends who have stores that stop carrying it because when they called and asked for the assays, Syntrax wouldn't give them out.

What studies can you provide that prove this bioactive substance can "cure" liver damage?

Also, is there any evidence that ALA has effects on insulin sensitivity in non-diabetic individuals?

Swale, If you want to read about Lipoic Acids ability to repair liver damage and it's use in treatment of Hep C, look up Dr Burt Berkson at the University of New Mexico.

R+ has a significant impact on non-diabetic individuals. One only needs to be insulin resistant to benefit from it's use. And insulin resistance is a very common side effect of AS use. So for us age isn't even an issue.

There is an executive summary at http://www.anabolicfitness.net/ALA/index_1.htm that is a little outdated but it will get you started as it cites 127 studies.
