rack pulls

i saw the clip for rack pulls on the deadlift sticky an i want to try them tomorrow. the only thing is do i set the bar at knee height and slightly bend my knees at the beginning... im not quite sure about the form on this exercise

I set the bar slightly below knee level, although its not overly important as I switch it up occasionally. Generally though, knee level or just below is perfect. Id sightly bend your knees and use your legs to get the bar moving, actually I think PB has a clip somewhere. Try the video's sticky.

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish..the pins should be placed a little below a sticking point...

or if you are just trying to work your posterior a few inches below the knee will do the trick as well..

personally i dont like rack pulls to build my dead..theyre fine for hitting the posterior which in that caase ill do reps anywhere from 5-15..

I much prefer block pulls- i have gotten away from doing these but they are now back in my regualr arsenal of tricks and theyll stay there as well

If you are not setting the bar up below the knee a tad it really doesn't emulate a deadlift at all, almost a power shrug with some posterior work. I personally did some reverse band deads today and like them much more than rack work.

because you are using the same motion as a regualr deadlift even though youre getting a little help on the bottom..

i set mine up so the bar releases from the bands around mid shin..then again the holes in my rack arent cut high enough for me to do them any other way lol

If your sticking point is the floor rack work from the knee level may help thinken your whole backside, but will likely do little to help your dead, off blocks, or lightened band work are better alternatives IMO.

Blackbeard, my power-rack sound like your, the bottom holes are still not much past knee level. I have blocks though that I use in conjunction with the rack so I can pull from anywhere from about 2 inches above where the bar would be on the floor, to a 4 inch partial.

For BB'ing purposes, rack pulls at knee level are an awesome way to thicken your whole backside.

i do racks soley for posterior work. i make sure to pull and not press the weight up. racks are a great movement for building big strong hammies, glutes and back.

Prolly PB, I'm shy:D I will prolly get some vids up early next year after:

I get a camera

Actually have 6 months in a row where I can use my upper body. This fucking rotator cuff thing sucks. I can't bench at all right now and last time I could do a full range bench I got 365=SUCKS and it fucked my rotator up worse. Although the last little fuck-up was broaght to me via a set of dips. You can call me chestless right now:D

do a lot of you guys use straps while doing rack pulls?

If i am below the knee i don't, if i am at the knee i do, as i don't want to over under the weight. It is too heavy and i don't want to risk any problems with my bi, or what is left of it. :)
