Having issue with my knee, what's up?

Okay so about a month and a half ago I was doing my run of the mill leg routine nothing crazy just the typical squat, leg curl, leg xtenshun combo and a couple sets into my squats still at a fairly light weight I think was 275lb I feel this weird sort of pain in the lower part of my right knee, almost like if it was severely dry like when you use to much letro, but more painful.. anyway I keep working through my squats thinking shit I've worked through some gym injuries before no biggie, but as soon as I get to 405 after the first rep it really started to kill, and after the 3rd rep I really started to feel something painful so I racked up thinkin I really did myself in and should of stopped after the first one.. I go over to the leg xtention machine and think I'll keep her nice and lite finish up a little early and just get a proper pump on, well I wouldn't even move the 40lb setting on the machine. Now I'm worried I've gone and fucked myself up real good and proper so I take a trip down to the walk-in and doc says is a bursa sack or something filled with liquid? Maybe I got the word or name wrong I can't remember bad memory, anyway he said there's not much I can do for it that it's fine I can work thru it as long as the pain stays the same or at least doesn't get worst if not better I'm all good. Needless to say now, since then, Everytime I hit legs as soon as I get to 225 on squats what's my knee starts to get bothersome, soon as I make it to 315, all hell breaks loose! But then when I up the weight into the 405 zone it goes away drastically! Not completely but enough to where I feel a bit more comfortable doing the squats. But then as soon as I try going any higher it's back to the same old pain. Thing is I can deadlift 500lbs+ for reps and it doesn't bother my knee in the slightest, and I use the regular deadlift stance not that weird sumo shit. My question is does anyone have an idea as to what's up with my knee? Or anyone going thru or gone thru something similar? Is there any other lift I can do to hit my legs as hard as squats without the pain? I just a little worried doc is wrong and with time maybe in the very near future I could end up really botching it and be out of the game... Lifting weights is a big part of my life and is what saved me from a very hard 10yr addiction i was stuck in, and im worried that I could put myself out of the game.. Any input would be wicked, sorry for the novel bros

You have an Effusion of the Knee, commonly known as Water on the Knee.
Usually, Rest and Time will let the Fluid get reabsorbed, but sometimes a bit of Fluid can remain.

If after Resting it for a few Weeks, you are still in the same situation.
Then go and see an Orthopedic Specialist, who Specializes in Knees.
Get an MRI, and if it's just the Fluid causing the problem.

Ask about getting a Cortisone Shot.
I had the same thing a few years ago, and the same Guy that did both of my Hips.
Gave me the Shot (wasn't painful at all), and within a couple of weeks, the Fluid was gone.
And the Knee has been 100% since the Shot, took around 10 days......................................... JP

you gotta RICE it.. JP is right about that... rest, ice, compression, elevation.. and ibuprofen

but im not a fan of cortisone shots... the issue with cortisone is that is masks pain more than actually doing any healing..

so i try to avoid it at all costs

Hey thanks for the quick replies Jp and 3J, I know those things might seem a little obvious to most it when it comes to nursing injuries I'm really ignorant and have no idea what to do and never take the time to help them heal, in turn it just makes my recovery time lengthen tenfold or just plain old exacerbates it. One more question is when you guys say take a break do you mean like not work out my legs all together for a couple weeks or just tone the load and volume down a bit til it's better? And since it's been a while since I've had the injury should I ice it or apply heat? Or both and if so which one first? Thanks again in advance bros, much appreciated!

I got the Cortisone Shot to Dry the Knee up.
I know the risks associated with Cortisone, and Don't recommend it lightly (last course of action).
That's why OP needs to see an Orthopedic Knee Specialist, as apposed to a GP, or just any Orthopedic Doctor.

I had 14 Intra-articular Cortisone Shots into my Hips before my Double Hip Replacement (2007 to 2016)
I needed to wait until the Surgical Technique's and Prosthetic's evolved enough that I felt confident of a Good Outcome......................... JP

Chronic Injuries can be Problematic at best to deal with.
People either tend to do Too Little or Too Much in dealing with an Injury, due to the Lack of Knowledge on the Degree of the Injury.
This is why an MRI would be of Immense Value in understanding what's really going on with your Knee.

Taking a Break, could be either just Toning it Back, as in Going Light for a Week or Two.
Or Skipping Legs for a Week.
Honestly, it's Difficult to say without some type of Diagnosis.

Ice can be used after Training for 20 Minutes On and 20 Minutes Off, then Repeat if Necessary.
NSAID's can be used for Acute Pain ~ Ibuprofen or I personally take Anacin (400 mg of Aspirin and 32 Mg Caffeine).
But if you are Aspirin Sensitive, stick to the Ibuprofen.............................. JP
P.S.
Knee Compression Sleeves can be a Great Help for Support during Exercise.
Widely available through Amazon/Walmart/and any Sports Store.

Hey thanks alot for the advice, I know most people would generally think of ice and ibuprofen off the bat but it never even crossed my mind, I'm actually iceing it as I write this and just took some ibuprofen. I'm also currently on the methadone maintenance program so I'm also wondering if that would mask some/a lot of the pain and in turn be more damaging to my knee or even some other symptoms associated with this? I can be very neglectful and in-experienced when it comes to takin care of injuries so all of this is much appreciated since I know a lot of you have been around the block. Would u recommend the MRI route if after a few weeks of going easier on leg day as well as ice and anti inflammatorys doesn't help?
