Rapid weight gain on TRT?

First post. First pin was 12 days ago. Since then I've gained 7 pounds of body weight. I track weight calories (I compete in powerlifting and try to stay within striking distance of weight class) and besides a healthy Thanksgiving binge I've been eating at or under maintenance and the weight gain started before (and continued long past) Thanksgiving day. I'm nominally 169-172 and the past 3 days I've been between 177-179, and rising. No change in diet or exercise regimen.

I realize there's no way I put on 7 pounds of muscle (or fat for that matter), in less than two weeks time; it's got to be water retention, is this a common or uncommon side effect of TRT?

For reference my total T prior to therapy was 100 ng/dl, we are starting treatment at 200mg/3wk. (Yes, I know 3wk is a long time, he said once I can show him I experience sides he'll increase frequency)

Thanks,

philip

You need to increase your frequency and dose right now. TRT is typically between 100-200mg/wk.

You could be carrying more glycogen. You may also be seeing a spike in your estradiol which would cause you to retain more water.

Blood work should be run to figure out what is going on.

I'm in kind of the same boat. I'm just over two weeks in, weighed in @ 177 for a pl meet in October. I have another one the day after Christmas and there is no way in hell I'm making the 181 wt class. Granted I usually "cut" a little to make the 181, but I've been low 190's in the morning this week. I'm definitely retaining water. I'm going to do blood work this week. I feel like the hulk at the gym though. Didn't think I'd "feel" it this soon, but like yourself I was pretty low.

I'm @ 200mg cyp divided into two 100mg injections though.

Remember, higher testosterone levels allow you to hold more glycogen. That is one of the benefits of running a cycle for example. Each gram of glycogen has about 3 grams of water attached to it.
