I was first showed around the weights room by a guy. He showed me very much the exercises he did, but gave me the lightest weights to start off with. Squats with just the bar, and then maybe the smallest weight plate. Bicep curls with the little silver weights etc. The best thing imo is to ensure she learns proper form and understands the basic exercises for each body part. Establish with her what she wants to achieve and make sure she understands which exercises work which muscles ... give her the exercises AND the reason/science behind them. Keep an eye on her progress and ensure that she steadily increases her weight, if her aim is to build some muscle.
I get so excited when I hear of someone just starting out. The early days when your body starts making changes are so very exciting.
I hope she gets in to it. Weight training is not for everyone.
