Ruptured my bicep tendon (pic inside)

I was doing preacher curls with an 80lb bar. Suddenly heard what sounded like cardboard tearing. Looked at my left arm and watched my bicep detach from my elbow and retract up into a knot in my upper arm. Surprisingly it didn't hurt as bad as I thought but I'll never forget that sound. Having surgery soon... sorry for the shitty pic but its the best I could do at the moment.

Be careful out there.

Holy cow! I'm assuming no lifting for the time being? How is the surgery is it a full recovery afterwards?

Crikey. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Thank you.

Well I can always do legs and lift things with my right arm I guess haha. Basically they just go in and reattach the tendon between the bicep and elbow. I've read that over time I should gain most of my strength back but only after several months of rehab.. not looking forward to it.

Holy shit! Did that hurt? Sorry to hear that bud. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Yes Stephen the initial tear hurt pretty bad but after that it felt more numb than anything. Like my bicep wasn't even there. Now it only hurts if I move it or try to hold things with my left hand.

No. I haven't cycled........... yet.

The reason I ask if you were on cycle primarily is that testosterone lowers collagen synthesis. Multiply that inconvenient fact with the tremendous gain in strength achieved on cycle, and it is a recipe for torn anything.

Good luck man. I wish you the best.

Thanks man. Good info as well.. always looking to expand my knowledge before I take the plunge.

How do you do that?

Honestly I think I strained my tendons a while back in college doing countless rope climbs and other stuff (military school). Since then I've had tendonitis (self diagnosed) off and on that would only come back if I was throwing a ball or wrestling with someone but never weight lifting. I think finally it just gave out when I was doing bicep curls. Of course that's all theoretical since I never went to a doctor for the tendonitis. Lesson learned there.
