So I got a question regarding my test cyp refills. I got 3 more refills left but my script expires July 10th. I have not had health insurance since January. Hence getting my script filled at Costco for $65.65 for 10 ml 200 mg/ml Watson. I asked the other ay if I could pick up all 4 remaining scripts at the time since they expire soon. I ended up getting 1 refilled leaving 3 refills. Pharmacist said they could not do that. I asked why, they said cause it was a controlled substance and one bottle is a 90 day supply and when I had insurance they filled it every 30 days. Pharmacist said only way to fill more than one bottle, was for her to contact my Dr. and see if he would authorize it. My question is if I got the refills and I am paying for it out of pocket, why cant I just get all my refills filled???

its a schedule 3, you can only have the amount the doc says you can use in a 30 or 60 day period, since a bottle maybe 10 weeks for you 11 weeks might be the earliest they allow , Yes you are paying out of pocket full retail price at this point

when I had insurance I could get a new bottle every 24 days, and I can still do that paying full price. but if I got 3 refills remaining and not refilled in like 90 days till now. Shouldnt I be able to get my remaining refills that were prescribed to me??

Doesn't work that way. Use it (at frequency prescribed) or lose it. You can't get it all at once.

Sounds like your script is poorly written and they think you are doing 10mL a month, or 500mg/wk.

I have a friend on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and his pharmacy wants him to pitch his test cyp 10ml vial and get a new one every 30 days despite not being on a dose anywhere near that much. They want him to do it because of the possible risk of contamination. Maybe your pharmacy is doing something similar???

Walmart wanted to give me 1ml vials at 40 bucks a pop, CVS is like a police-state run pharmacy when it comes to refills and Costco has been good, but they don't do that for me.

I actually asked my pharmacy if I should be pitching my vial after a month. My pharmacist -- who I have gotten to know reasonably well -- said he had not heard of anyone doing that with Test. Insulin yes, but not Test. He looked at Watson's materials (So did I) and they don't indicate that you should pitch it. They don't say anything.

I did find on the CDC's website that they recommend the following:

When should multi-dose vials be discarded?
Medication vials should always be discarded whenever sterility is compromised or questionable.
In addition, the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) General Chapter 797 [16] recommends the following for multi-dose vials of sterile pharmaceuticals:
If a multi-dose has been opened or accessed (e.g., needle-punctured) the vial should be dated and discarded within 28 days unless the manufacturer specifies a different (shorter or longer) date for that opened vial.
If a multi-dose vial has not been opened or accessed (e.g., needle-punctured), it should be discarded according to the manufacturer’s expiration date.

I need to print this off and show it to my pharmacist. But I am trying to be careful. I want him to think that my intentions regarding infection risk are sincere rather than looking like I am trying to store up enough test cyp to be able to run a cycle. The other part is that filling 12 vials a year would be spendy. But I can tell that when I get to the bottom of a vial after two injections per week that the seal is a little suspect.

Invoking the CDC and Chapter 797 makes it sound pretty legit. For all the pharmacist knows, I could live in a cockroach infested home. .

If you wouldn't mind could you ask your pharmacist and let us know? I inject twice a week which means a lot of draws from my vial. I notice that the seal isn't very good as I am drawing my last injections. I worry about bacterial infection getting in there.
