Should you eat differently on days that you weight train?

I usually try to eat the same amount of protein even on days that I don't lift...it's the carbs that I try to moderate between lifting and nonlifting days.

It would probably more likely be the other way around (more carbs on workout days), but different people feel differently about nutrition and if you ask 5 people you will probably get five different opinions.

I'm not a nutrition expert, but I do realize that I tear down my muscle at the gym and my body builds muscle outside of the gym. Thus, I eat lots of protein every day.

The carb intake seems to be more controversial, perhaps because carbs influence blood sugar and insulin rather rapidly.

Personally, I eat high protein, high carb, low sugar (obviously a type of carb) every day. My fat intake is higher than I would like it to be, but I have special needs due to high cholesterol.

Hopefully others, that know more than me, will speak up.

I eat the same amount of carbs and protein on both workout and non-training days. I agree with mranak, you are growing outside of the gym. I have tried reducing calories on my off days, and I felt horrible and didn't look any better for it. Just my opinion...Jul

Does it matter? Should I consumer more protein etc on days that I weight train or the day after I train?

also matters what it is you are trying to accomplish
you want some simple carbs immediately after training however you dont want simple carbs on your off days but rather stick with cleaer carbs that are brown: oats, brown rice, whole wheat things etc

hey its tom lol.

Im lowering my bodyfat now, basically carb cycling, so I eat a little less carbs on non training days, but even when im putting on weight, i still eat a little less carbs because I dont have my PWO shake.

This is basically what I was trying to say. Even though I eat good, slow release carbs...I.E. Brown Rice, oatmeal... I usually eat a higher glycemic carb before going to the gym so I have the extra energy to burn and I deplete the carb stores so as not to turn to fat. On my off days I eat only the good carbs. This is what I personally do and it has been working for me. I am slowly increasing muscle mass without gaining body fat.
