Shoulder Surgery

I'm afraid an old injury is butting it's head.

Here's my cycle:

600 test e per week
400 deca pw
.25 arimidex eod

I'm about 3 full weeks into this cycle. My old injury was a repair of several tears in my labrum. Something is not right with the shoulder right now. It feels loose, and occasionally feels like something is catching. However, it wasn't the kind of catching i was getting with the tears. It's more of a "shift."

Couple questions. Is it possible my estro is too low and i'm putting stress on my joints?

My strength is there, but i'm not sure if that's any indication that i'm ok. I'm benching 375 and shoulder pressing 90lb dumbells without any pain. But at this point, i'm starting to fear injury.

I'm considering getting bloods done now to see where my estro is sitting. Also, i should note. I took .25mgs every day because i felt some pain near my left nip. Not sure if it was gyno, but i jumped on it. Hopefully i didn't drive e2 too low.

Thought fellas?

Deca should help in a week or 2 when its fully kicked in. Having had 2 rotator cuff tears myself i have to use dumbells for any heavy pressing no more barbell. Maybe try switching up your routine with them and see if that helps

thast the exact cycle im on now. I also have shoulder problems as I had bilateral labrum tears and a tear to my subscapularus. I only real way to see if its e2 related is exactly what u know, only true way to see is by getting blood work. how are your other joints feeling. usually if I tank my estrogen my knees feel dry. your adex dose is a standard dose but even that much can tank ur estro and dependant on the person.

To add to my post earlier. I took .25 adex ed for the 2nd week into the cycle. I made it sound like i've been taking it everyday from the beginning.

Thanks bigkit. I've always seen guys steer clear of the bench for shoulder injury prevention, but i never really understood. I've never had any issues until now.

Today is shoulder day for me, and i can't decide whether to stay light and high reps, or rest it all together. I know you guys in here know how it is. I DO NOT want to miss one day of training. But, again, i fear injury. Decisions, decisions.

At that test and Aromatase inhibitor (AI) dosage I doubt you crashed estrogen but blood work is never a bad idea really just to be safe. I think it's far more likely you just re-aggravated the old injury. Take it easy, do proper warmups, make sure your form is impeccable, do dynamic stretching before and after, static stretching after workout and alter your training if needed. Don't overdo it bc you don't want a nagging shoulder injury flaring up brother.

My left shoulder felt a little dry last week during upright rows (the opposite shoulder). also my left hip cramped up near the joint on leg press. But, i've had those issues before.

I was thinking if my estro was lower than normal, would my surgically repaired shoulder be more vulnerable than the rest of my body?

Well DreDay, it looks like i'll be using your bloodwork protocol here pretty soon. I'll probably just go for the female panel now, but i want to get the actual test number eventually. 3 weeks in isn't enough for maximum levels... i dont think

Yes a female hormone panel is fine for now and will confirm or deny the estrogen bein crashed. If you didn't do bloods pre-cycle it will also give you an indication of most of the other important factors like RBC, hCT, ast/alt, etc. look for online coupon codes to take 10-15% off the order too. Go for the accurate test numbers after wk 6 to make sure everything is fully stabilized. :)

No, i broke the rules for myself and didn't get bloods before. ssshhh. please don't tell anyone. :) Do you think an NSAID would help?

Especially becareful when the deca starts to fully 'kick.' It could possibly mask the pain there in a week or 2. Best of luck

That or ibuprofen can help with inflammation if that's the problem. If its pain NOT due to inflammation it can mask the problem and lead you to do more and make it worse like Metalhead said. I'll keep your rule breaking to myself but can't promise others won't find out lol

Good advice fellas. Let the pain be my guide. I'm going to lay off the bench and upright rows. I'll probably steer clear of dips as well. I'll keep it light and see how that feels. Worst case, i may need to take off for a bit.

I feel a bit better guys. thanks

If you're not doing a press, overhead obviously and preferably barbell but dumbells will suffice, I'd suggest you do some to work the shoulder. Bench only can lead to shoulder issues but if you balance it out with the press it can in some cases fix the problem before it gets too far. Bent over or pendlay rows can also help but the press is a better choice for strength/power and hypertrophy.

So you're suggesting barbell press for my shoulders? Just to be clear. I'm currently using dumbells for my pressing motions and the hammer strength as well. I was under the impression to shy away from the barbell and hammer strength exercises because of their fixed motions. Obviously, the barbell has more freedom than the hammer strength, but not as much as the dumbells.

Am i making sense?

Barbell press WITH PROPER FORM should be ok with many shoulder injuries by not all. Barbell is preferred IF you can do it safely. Look up Mark Rippetoe's video on how to do the press with proper hip drive to limit lever arm in elbows and shoulders or I'll see if my brother can send me the link and post it here. Matter of fact I'd recommend Rippetoe for form on EVERY major barbell lift. If not barbell than dumbells will work too and allow more freedom for you me shoulder. I don't use machines at all bc of range of motion problems and they cannot be adjusted to an individuals antrhopometry. Injuries are more likely to happen with machines than free weights, providing form is correct. I personally do not use machines at all and haven't in years and couldn't be happier :)

Also, DreDay. I'm scheduled to give bood this Saturday. If i get bloodwork done tomorrow, do they take a significant amount. To be clear, would i still be good to go for a blood donation the next day?

Are you taking a PA with the deca? Has nothing to do with the shoulder, but I didn't see it mentioned. What's your routine like? I usually do at least one 1/2 weight warm up set, and try to never lift anything I cannot do 10 reps with (failing at 9 is OK) Anything heavier and all my joints hurt
