sleep deprivation

Sorry for posting this here...not quite sure which forum it would go in. I'm in a position where I will only be getting 4-5 hrs of sleep per night instead of my usual 7-8, for the next 6 months. In what ways can i expect this to adversely affect my training or concentration (if at all)?

It's kinda up to your body and how it handles it. I've got a buddy who gets 5 hours of sleep a night all the time, he just wakes up after 5 hours and feels great, and he's a monster and works out most mornings.

If you need more sleep though, I would tone down my intensity and keep the workouts shorter.

I get a consistent 4 hrs of sleep a night because of my schedule and it doesnt really effect me that much when im training during the week. I can honestly say i feel alot better sleeping very few hours rather than 8hrs or above. On my part if i get 8 or more hrs of sleep a night i feel so damn tired and grouchy that i wont train as intense. Then if that happens i have to drink a speedstack and im good to go... It's basically What Longhorn said. It is how your own body deals with it. Some people react different.

Good Luck

Even though your body can adjust and everyone's different, I've noticed a difference depending on my training. Depending on my routine, sometimes I just need more sleep. It will also definitely affect your concentration since it looks like you'll be reducing your sleep by 3 hours, about 40% of what you were getting before. That's a huge change. You'll adapt at some point, but you will not be unaffected. Lt Col Dave Grossman has done some really good studies regarding performance (mostly combat oriented) and sleep deprivation. I wish more of our superiors would pay attention to it.

everyone's different. try caffeine for your workouts, if you have to. worked for me for a stretch of about 2 months. after that, your body builds tolerance to and dependence on the caffeine.
