Sprints while bulking?

Has anyone tried sprints while bulking? Maybe once or twice a week? I would think it might be good because it's a muscle building activity and could help keep you leaner.

Any thoughts or experiences?

i used to train sprinting while at football camp and during the season...and was bulking at the time...
worked well...

not a bad idea, especially since most people cant walk a flight of stairs without breating heavy when they are bulking. I will never get so big again that i am winded going through my day.

getting out of breath is conditioning , extra weight requires a big man to be in better condition than a smaller man to do the same amount of walking/day to day stuff without huffing and puffing . i admit there are many powerlifters who cant walk to the bathroom without stopping and resting when the get there but i also know some 300-400 pounders who can walk the average guy into the dirt and move as gracefull as a cat .

What I'm thinking is sprinting will burn a lot of calories, so you'd have to eat more, BUT, glucose uptake in muscles is super high after sprinting, which should help keep you lean while you're eating so much.

I see only two negatives:

1. that's going to stress the legs a lot. I think many could get used to squatting one day and sprinting 1-2 days a week if they work up to it.

2. Sprinting burns a tremendous amount of calories, so you need to eat more on sprint days.

However, there seem to be more positives:

1. Sprints are muscle building activities that work the legs in a much different way that squats, which is a nice benefit.

2. Glucose uptake in muscle after sprinting is much higher than after lifting. This would be beneficial to keeping you lean and creating an anabolic environment. This is good since your off day carbs will be less likely to be turned into fat.

3. It keeps your cardiorespiratory endurance up while bulking without doing normal cardio that could mess with muscular or strength gains.

do them...this fall, I've decided to do lots of cardio while bulking, while at the same time eating tons and tons of clean food, upto 800 grams of carbs per day at times. I've noticed a definate increase in size without the fat. just make sure to eats lots

Yeah, I'm liking the idea. I think I'll give it a try by doing sprints 2 days a week, with enough time between them to let my legs recover.

It won't be just your legs that take a beating. I use sprinting in my bulking regimen and it's hell on the shoulders and lower back as well.

It's a quick way to overtrain. When your breath gets cold [inverse VO2 symptom], ease up.

My 2 cents
