Stretching Pain.....

So I'm trying to become more flexible so I can maybe compete in Fitness one day.

But when I go to stretch out my left hamstring it feels funny.....like a funny bone sensation. The rest of my muscles just feel sore, but this "funny" sensation is a huge discomfort. Any ideas what it could be?

are you stretching out cold or after at least some warmup [ treadmill/staitmaster/etc. ]?

Always after warming up or workout, cardio, etc.

It seriously feels like I've been hit in a funny bone!

im not sure then , i suspected you were stretching cold .

are you just reaching to your toes when you get that feeling (sit and reach style)?

Does it also hurt when you do a hamstring exercise (stiff leg Deads, hamstring curls, GHR, etc...)?

It doesn't hurt when I do a hamstring exercise. I am reaching to my toes, but it only feels funny part way through the stretch.......when I'm near the end of the stretch (as far as I can go) I can't feel it!

you place the sciatic nerve on stretch when stretching ham's, it could be this as you move through the stretch

it doesn't sound serious.

as long as you can move through full ROM with exercise and stretches you should be ok.

If it worsens i'd see someone about it, since you are wanting to compete.

---it doesnt hurt when you kick right?-- if not, you should be fine, just keep an eye on it, warm-up properly (dynamic) and make sure you don't have a quad>hamstring muscle imbalance.
