Filtering has nothing to do with sterilization, filtering just removes foreign particles, but yes just stick to the .45.

Incorrect.
Filtering in effect removes bacteria becuase much of the common bacteria/fungi is too large to pass through the media. What is small enough to pass through can be killed by heat.

In fact, whatman guarantees a sterile solution after filtration given that the proceedure was done correctly. Just ask em.
