Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) seems very involved

TRT seems very involved

I am about to go for my 2nd bloodworks to see if the kind NHS here in the UK will give me Test.....We are so behind you guys in the States!

Well reading through here it does not seem like a single shot of say Enanthate a week is the way to go about it. It seems like other drugs to stabilize the estrogen levels need to be taken and some reports are saying 'Still low libido'

I always thought a single shot of a small dose of Enth or Cyp per week would do the trick, obviously there is a lot more to testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) than I thought!?!?!

if only it were that easy. Sad thing is most docs think it's that easy. You find docs that tell you they are experts on the subject prescribing 400mg of test cyp once a month!

best thing would be to find someone who is knowledgeable enough to get you dialed in

It will also depend on your levels. That may very well be a good starting protocol for you!

Just remember that protocols will change and need adjustment over time! At a minimum due to your own natural testosterone levels beginning to shutdown due to the negative feedback loop in the body. You may end up even needing to educate the Doc in order to get proper treatment. IF something doesn't sound right, post here along with blood levels and we will let you know what's up from our perspective as fellow patients!

Frankly, that's really why the term Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is more accurate than TRT. There are more than a single hormone that makes us tick - this is about having several hormones in optimum balance with testosterone and estrogen being the two big ones.

This is a huge part of the problem Chip is trying to solve and much more broadly than his practice or this forum - he's doing an Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) study that will benefit all men... Hopefully the way menopause is recognized and treated for women.

Oh, the problem? Most docs think it's only the testosterone and even at that won't prescribe for the patient - they prescribe based on their limited knowledge and what the rx slip says in the package. Many won't test for or pay attn to estrogen or SBHG, which are just as important to have dialed in (if not moreso). Docs write for test, patients take it for a few months and things don't improve (not enough test), or get worse (estrogen too high) then doc says "see, didn't work again, why bother". Bullshit - you mean why bother learn to do Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) right? Hopefully, and I suspect many in this forum are in this category, the patient feels awesome for a few weeks and knows there's something more to it and teach themselves.

g and monster are right. It takes a commitment from both the doctor and patient to get things dialed in and keep them dialed. It also takes some patience and trial/error for the first few months.

This is why I'm with Maximus. Period.

Top replies guys......Thank you.

Well the last time my bloodworks were done the Doctor said that having my Test levels checked was a waste of time, but I insisted it was done. I then got back the usual crap, everything from my bloodworks and then came up the Test levels! It only had one number beside is which was 10.7. I had no idea about this so I phoned a private clinic in London and asked what it meant. They said for my age (37) my Test levels should be around 24-26 so I am very low. I then spoke to my Doctor about this, I have been told not to worry about anything and was prescibed Viagra. I then went to see my Doctor again as I have read that being low in Test can cause anxiety, mood swings, lack of confidence.....Well I suffer from all of these! So the Doctor now wants to give me another blood test to see what it shows. If only I could afford private care but the cheapest is £3,000 for 6 month treatment ($4,600 USD)

Sounds like you are doing what most of us have had to: educating your doctor.

Good news is we all learn a lot on this forum and if you post your blood test results I'm sure you'll get a lot of feedback that will arm you with more knowledge to talk to your doc.

It's like wading in the ocean.. You're up on top of the wave then you come back down, then back up and so on.. That's why you need a doc is actually on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to help you ride it out until it smoothens out..
I need to stay in touch with chip more often bc he has a head full of knowledge of what he's gone through and hearing from hundreds clients go through the similar situations.. Good luck finding someone like that Bro.. Best of luck

honestly, if you don't feel comfortable with your doc or any doc that will put you on HRT.. Don't do it! HER done wrong will make you feel worse than living w/ low natural T..
When I go through a low time w/ Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), I know I can make a phone call, an adjustment to my protocol, or just get moral support.. What r u going to do if you don't have that?

In all honesty, if it weren't for Chip and Maximus I would be going the UGL route to get my Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) meds. Much riskier obviously, but if the choice is between being a physical and emotional wreck because of Dr.'s that don't know the first thing about Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or going UGL, I'll take UGL. Thankfully Chip makes it easier and more affordable than even going through my insurance company. I pay for Maximus out of my pocket even though my insurance would pay for my test. Honestly, just not even worth dealing with the copays, time off to go to the appointment, arguing with these momos about Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) and AI's as well as dosing frequency. No thanks.

Can you choose your own Doc over there, across the pond? If so, maybe ask around and choose a new primary care who is more familiar with TRT/HRT?
