The other kind of cycle, birth control, and a hell of a time

I took Yaz a few years ago for six days. I began taking it to help with PMS symptoms, which in hindsight was silly because I would start at 7am on the 17th of each month and be done by 7am on the 18th. But my cramps were so bad that I couldn't do anything but sit on the bathroom floor sick as can be. So I tried it. And... now my cycle is all screwed to hell still. Like I said, it's been about three years now and I thought things would have gotten at least regular by now, but now I have the debilitating cramps for a week or longer instead of 24 hours. I've been toying with the idea of doing an aas cycle, but now after reading one of supergirl's posts, I don't think I will try it, especially after my experience with Yaz. Anyone else had an experience like this with birth control and how long, or what did they do, to regulate things a little better? I'd rather stay away from trying another one, but I'm not sure if where things are now might effect my husband and I from having kids. (I stopped the Yaz after six days because I got an eight hour long nose bleed which ended in me passing out at work and being rushed to the hospital. My doctor at the time had told me to keep taking it and that this was a normal side effect. Yeah, right.)

Hi Bella1121,

Sorry to hear your going through this, dealing with debilitating cramps can really be devastating. Birth control does help some wowen alleviate cramps, if your cramps are that seviere, u might suffer from Secondary dysmenorrhea, which is when menstrual cramps are caused by other conditions such as endometriosis, fibroid tumors, pelvic adhesions, and ovarian cysts.

When women don't ovulate, the won't typically experience cramps, this is why doctors prescribe contraceptives.

Has your doctor performed any tests ?, like internal ultrasound, etc.
If he hasn't, I would go back to the doctor & insist on having these tests done. You really need to find out the cause for these cramps.

I hope u find the help u need & get better soon... Best of luck 2 u :)

Thank you for the info and the advice Mrs. P! I really appreciate it. I haven't had a good doctor that I've felt comfortable with since I was a child, and currently I'm without health insurance so extensive testing isn't realistic quite yet. Hoping to get on a new plan soon. You don't realize just how much health insurance pays for until you don't have it. (I wish someone had told me to treat health insurance like a job. Don't get rid of the old one before you have a new one.)
