To TRT or To IMT?? ...That is my question....

Well after several months of doc visits etc. the verdict is in, total T is on the low end of normal (400's) and free T is low (around 7.5 ish).

Urologist recommends trying TRT. He wants to start with 200mg Test cyp once per month.

IMT has recommended their standard protocol of 200mg/week plus the aromatase inhibitors etc.

Keeping this "off" my insurance is a no go as the doc already has me diagnosed and $300 for labs every 6mos is kind of steep. So the insurance variable has been accepted.

However, opinions/experiences are welcome regarding which course of action might be better/worse etc.

Thanks!

I'd at least contact IMT and see what they can offer you. FYI: 200mg/MONTH of testosterone is not going to make you a happy camper. ;)

Your other doc is suggesting a very bad protocol. Convince him otherwise or get a new doc. IMT has great reviews from a lot of members here. Would be good to at least talk to them.

200mg once per month will only hurt you. I would run from that dr. Also, if your new to testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), I would not start with 200mg per week that IMT offers. Start low and titrate up from there after you get blood work at 6 weeks. Most start at 100mg per week. If you can, do 50mg every 3.5 days.

Halfwit, please elaborate on why you feel the 200mg/month is bad? I will admit, that seems SUPER low. The doc did say he would retest at 3 weeks to see how things were going.

Megatron, likewise please elaborate on why you think that's a bad protocol. I guess I should've made it clear that I have been approved by IMT for the standard 200mg/week etc and am just weighing my options one last time before ordering OR going with my doc. I will say, I threw up in my mouth a little bit when they told me about the $300 for blood test every 6 months. Unless I read the email wrong and they want blood tests more often than that.

bigdippin, just as above could you provide some detail on why 200mg/month is not the way to go and why I should conversely not go with IMT's plan of 200mg/week.

Thanks everyone for responding. Your opinions and time and much appreciated.

Test Cyp has a 6-7 day half-life so you want to inject at least weekly, if not twice weekly to keep a stable level. 200 once a month just makes no sense.

I'm now with IMT. Although I'm able to use up to 200mg per week, I'm not. I'm injecting 80mg every 3.5 days for a total of 160 mg per week. You want to use the least amount possible to get the desired results. I started testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) with a clinic. My initial Testosterone level was 79. Dr started me on 120 mg per week. No hcg. They didn't prescribe it. Now with IMT, I'm injecting 250 iu 2 times per week. I will get bloodwork in 6 weeks to see how I'm progressing on this protocol. If my numbers aren't where I want them I will increase my testosterone dosage.

Congrats! Let us know how you are doing and as you learn more you can start helping other guys with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) questions.

Internal medicine doctors who prescribe 200mg/month are generally only doing it because they know what the problem is but aren't well versed enough in hormone replacement to know all there is to know such as AI's, how much test you produce naturally per week, etc. They know enough to "treat" what they know is the problem without going so far as to cause irreversible damage and stay out of malpractice suits. See an endocrinologist.

These guys are usually worse than the the uro's and GP's. I know it seems they should know, but they don't understand the treatment side anyway, they are good with diabetics and thyroid problems, thats about it
