Just started benching again after long lay off from training and my triceps seem to keep getting strained and im not even benching heavey.
Any ideas whats wrong?
..and it's going to stay that way until you get your tri muscle endurance back up there. It's alot like running long distance.. it just takes some time and repetition. In the mean time you could try pre-fatigue on your chest muscles. Before bench do something like flies. It isolates the chest muscle and works the tricep very little. Then when you go to bench, the chest muscles are already started
Creatine can help a little also.
doing high volume light weight sets to start off with help me loosen up before I go heavy and like gumbo said switch over to dumbells if you haven't already, using the barbell puts more emphisis on your tri-ceps than using dumbells

You may be going to hard after your long lay off. benching is a big compound excercise and you may wasnt to ease back into your training by doing a lot of rotator cuff work and stretching, along with dumbells and machine, just for the first couple of weeks. This would probably help you to get back in the swing of things before starting with excercises that would place more stress on your joints.
In addition to Gumbo's suggestion, try close grip benches with knurling bar. That's what I did to strengthen mine and helped them grow. Start light and build from there.
