TRT arrives on Tuesday and I have some questions

After having a terrible past few months in and out out of the gym, I was tested for my testosterone levels and they were pretty low so the doctor recommend I start injections for 6 months and then consider transitioning to Cholmid to see if my body can "reboot" its production.

My questions are, can I ease back on the protein supplements while on testosterone? In addition to 150mg of testosterone per week (which I may split into 75mg twice a week), he also prescribed me an anti estrogen pill and a pill to fight my body stopping to produce its natural testosterone but I cannot remember the medicinal names.

I'll have the medications names when they arrive in the mail. What else should I be aware of since I am very new to this?

Next time you see your doctor slap him in the face and say that's from Prince. Lol.

TRT is for life. There is no way cruising on TRT for 6 months is going to help you 'reboot' the HPTA. Suppression will only make things worse than before, when you come off your levels will be lower. You should consider an actual restart protocol. Something like Clomid alone 25-50mg daily for 3 months would be a possibility. Depending if your primary or secondary hypo a hCG restart might have potential.

Do you have any blood work?

The medication your talking about, is it hCG? (Human Chorionic Gonadatropin)

Fuck I hate incompetent doctors.

I will have to wait until Tuesday to be able to tell you for sure.

I do have blood work, but he held onto it and said he would give it back to me upon my follow up visit.

All I can remember is test = 473 and free test = 74. I'm in my 30's.

That is quite low but doesn't actually qualify you as hypogonadal. If I was you I'd find a different doctor. Unless you want to skip straight to TRT and be on it for the rest of your life.. then by all means go and start. But if he tries to make you come off it you're in for a shit ride. With that level of test you could have a good chance at a successful 'restart.'

Do some reading, ask more questions... but definitely get a different doctor.

I read that you have to be on it for 12 to 18 months before your body starts to permanently stop reproducing its own testosterone ... is that correct?

DEFINITELY wrong! As little as week, depending on the dose. Basically when your body senses there's more testosterone than you normally produce, you will be fully shut down. The days leading up to that will be slowly tapering down.

Edit: My bad, I see what you mean but that's still absolutely wrong. Every single time you shut down the HPTA, or even suppress it, your doing it damage. Shutting down now with your levels would destroy your natural HPTA and force you to stay on TRT for life.

This is why we say get a new doctor who knows what he's doing, as you may be able to avoid TRT by doing restarts or other therapies which may not be as permanent or costly or invasive.

Ok, I see, thank you. Will the Chlomid and such be a substitute for the protein shakes, or should I continue with the protein shakes while trying to restart my production?

I don't understand. Clomid is a medication used for stimulating the brain into telling your balls to produce more testosterone. Protein is used for protein synthesis, amongst many other functions in the body.

You should keep up a healthy diet alongside this, including various sources of protein for a higher bioavailability and 60-80g of fats predominately from EFA sources (fish oils, avocados, olive oil, peanut butter etc.) Polyunsaturated fats help with sex hormone production.

It may have been a dumb question. My logic was that I was taking protein to try and build muscle at the gym because I was seeing declines in my workouts and not improvements. Any testosterone treatment should increase my muscle growth if my workouts are proper, correct? If so, I'm wondering if I can cut back on the protein shakes while I'm trying to restart my testosterone production as I don't particularly like the shakes?

I will also post on Tuesday, specific names as to what comes in the mail for accuracies sake since I could not remember the medicinal names.

Ah I see. Well, you don't need shakes at all man so no. For building/maintaining muscle all you really need is sufficient protein. It can come from more or less wherever... try to make it mainly good sources though (egg whites, chicken breast, turkey, beef etc.) You want to aim for about 1gram per pound of LBM.

If clomid brings you back into decent levels yes it will help you with recovery, and muscle building. You will need to spend about 6 weeks on clomid 25-50mg ED and then get bloods tested to see where your levels are at. You should start feeling a lot better and enhanced recovery within a few weeks though.

Prince is giving you great advice. I agree, I would try a "restart" first with Clomid/Tamoxifen and / or hcg and see if you can restart your own production. How old are you? If your young, Remember, TRT is for life...

One side note, your diet and protein intake has NOTHING to do with TRT. Your diet is a huge part of your health and fitness level. Your diet should be clean and steady, regardless if your on TRT or not.

I can't eat enough protein to hit that ratio with standard food as I'm thin, which is why I was consuming supplement shakes.

Here are the meds I'm receiving in the mail

Testosterone Cypionate
Anastrozole
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin(HCG)

Will you stop talking about protein and TRT in the same posts. Thats like comparing apples to uh... a telephone. This is kind of some serious shit, that guys with serious problems take... not to be compared to taking 1 or 3 scoops of whey protein on any given day.

Honestly, you aren't ready to start TRT. You talk about it like this is some 6 month bender to build muscle. Thats called steroids, and you also aren't ready for that either. You should hold onto the stuff you get, but also hold off doing anything. Even guys who average a natural TT number of 800 can have days in the 400s. Eat more food if you are stalled in the gym and carry on.

It's not a steroid bender. I ask because I don't want to spend the money on protein if I'm getting the same results in a different manner and it is wasteful. I have a very stringent diet and I am not planning to deviate from that. That is the motivation for my question about that. Reading your post, I see that one does not replace the other in any way, shape or form, so thank you for clarifying that.

Question answered by a nutritionist today ... testosterone tells the body to add muscle and protein is the raw material to build that muscle.
