Low carb isn't the best for bulking... you should pick one and stick with it. You wont accomplish both on your own. I would advise looking into 3J.

I'll definitely share my experience either way though!![]()
Doable? Yes. Painfully slow and damn expensive? Absolutely.
I personally am debating on trying to bulk while in ketosis (20g of carbs per day) as I'm a diabetic, and keto makes it so much easier to manage blood sugar. As I'll require around 6500 kcals per day to bulk, I'm a bit apprehensive as that's an ass-ton of calories to consume without a cheap source that are carbohydrates.
Half, are you not worried about excessive fat gain attempting this? At 6500cal per day with carb intake limited to 20g that must include an assload of fats in a surplus. Will you be on a blast doing this?
Yes my macros would be something like 35% pro/5% carb/60% fat, much like the typical ketogenic diet. As my body only uses fat while in ketosis for fuel, I would be surprised if I gained a ton of fat as I hope to have the majority of the calories going to building new tissues. Of course I'll probably gain a little fat as I don't think I have the ability to fine tune a bulk to that extent. Granted, I will be on a blast as well, which should help out a smidgen.![]()
We'll see though, I have a feeling that just from the financial standpoint I may have to go back to a traditional carb-heavy bulk as carbs are such a cheap source on calories. That and... CHEESECAKE! LOL.![]()
Hmm interesting. If you end up doing this should throw up a logWould be a great learning experience for us all no doubt.
You could scull a litre of olive oil dailyOr a couple jars of PB haha
LOVE that stuff! Only thing that keeps me from breaking keto when I run it.
Hahaha, I do actually have a bunch of coconut oil and olive oil. I haven't found any low carb peanut butter yet, but plan on hitting the Whole Foods nearby and seeing if I can't make some - or at least pecan butter.
Yeah, I'll probably throw something up once I get it ironed out.![]()
Half, are you going to attempt this low-carb bulk while cycling or simply TRT?
Also, your a naturally big dude right? Naturally meaning you weren't a skinny guy before dieting, cycling etc.
I had a diabetes scare just recently - my fasting blood sugar level kept rising each month, went from 80 to 110 in 3 months time! I asked my dad about the family history of diabetes and he told me that EVERY member of my family got diabetes in their upper 30s to lower 40s except him. Being 45 and having been almost faithfully following a 3J diet for months, this frightened me greatly! I did research into my supplements and I found out it was from taking glucosamine-something to help my joints. I stopped taking it and BAM, a scant 3 days later I was at a fasting level of 99. I am taking another test tomorrow, having been off it for a few weeks, and hope to see it even lower.
I am apparently very sensitive to such things, which is not a surprise now that I know my family history!
You should buy a glucose meter and keep track of both your fasting and post-prandial (2 hours after eating) sugars for awhile just to be sure. Simply eating less carbohydrates the day prior to a test can drop your glucose significantly. Interesting on the glucosamine-chondroitin though - I'll have to read up on that as I do take it.
