At the moment im bulking up, trying to pile on the pounds. ive got a weight gain shake and im noticing results. im also noticing my stomach is getting bigger. is their any way i can prevent my stomach from growing while still packing on the pounds or am i just being stupid?

whats the brand of weight gain shake youre using? a lot of the weight gainers will contain a shit load of simple carbs to get the total calorie count up, thats what makes it a "mass builder." anyone in this forum will lend their advice to say that you will want to up your main calorie intake to 3500-4500 per day. it should be divided into 6 to 7 meals at 500 or so calories per meal. I would say cut the "weight gainer" if thats what it is, and use Whey, Flax Oil, Peanut Butter, and Banana's for making your own shakes. That way at least you know whats in it. Other than that, youll just want to eat a LOT, but eat clean. Lots of chicken breasts, low fat cuts of beef, fish, etc. Youre going to want to try to get 250-300g of protein per day if possible. You will notice most likely a layer of subcutaneous fat over your stomach that could possibly build up a little, but not much. If youre seeing a bloated look to your stomach, its probably from sugar. Thats why I recommend dropping the weight gainer, its usually shitty and is just used for football players. If you want quality mass, with minimal "fat" gain, then just eat a lot of clean foods. It wont give you shredded abs but it certainly wont make your stomach stick out.

my weight gainer shake brand is ON its called Serious Mass. i take two heaped scoops a day which contains 1630 calories, 293g carbs, total fat 19g 74g protein. All those supplement facts are halved tho because i take one scoop in the morning and one after workout.

so whey protein and peanut butter and a banana ?
ive never done this...ive always just bought cytogainer but it tends to get me fat also... do you add anything else to this mix like oatmeal or anything?
how much peanut butter is average ?

If you don't have to add fat, then I suggest you discontinue using that stuff.

which weight gainer your choosing has very little to do with your stomach. its more closely related to
1. genetics - how your body partitions calories when you gain weight (fat vs muscle)
2. your overall number of calories. if youre attempting to gain weight to fast, youll undoubtedly gain bodyfat.

but i do agree that making your own shake with protein powder (the link in my sig sells the best tasting stuff youll find anywhere - if you use the premium flavors), oatmeal, and if needed, healthy fats and fruits.

i hate to break it to you, but its not the cytogainer making you fat, its some combination of your genetics and calories. its not as if youre not shredded because of the maltodextrin or whatever carb in cytogainer. weight gainers are pretty concentrated - theres a lot of calories, so its easy to "over eat" with them and not really realize it.

standard serving size for (natural) peanut butter is 30g which is 2 tbsp. This gives 15g fat, 7g carbs, 6g protein (its pretty much standardized between brands). I havent eaten Jif or PeterPan or any other fake ass, hydrogenated and bakers sugared peanut butter in a while so i dont know the info on it, but i imagine it would be similar, just higher in carbs.

im only 5'4 145 pounds.. im not really fat but my bottom 4 abs dont show...id say i have about a 1/2 inch to maybe 3/4 of a inch of fat over the bottom 4... thats the only place i really carry any fat, it bothers me but not too bad... The cytogainer has about 670 calories or somthing like that and it says take 3 servings a day, and i only took 2 when i used it. The whey i use now is only 260 calories, and i started dropping fat off my body once i left the cytogainer alone almost instantly. As soon as i start using cytogainer i notice my chest starts to look puffy.

So is cytogainer fattening or not because damn near everyone on here says it is, but your saying its my genetics and calories....so does that mean i should cut down on food or cytogainer or what ?

cytogainer has creatine mono in it. creatine mono makes you hold water. after a few days, youre instantly bloated and "fat". Stop taking it and magically youve dropped 10 pounds of "fat" (water). Once again, there are no magic substances in cytogainer that make you fat.

a good peanut butter is any peanut butter that has "natural" on the label. If its in a clear jar (they generally are) you should be able to see oil sitting on top of the peanut butter. although sometimes natural peanut butters have palm kernel oil in them to prevent the oil separation. trust me, once you get used to the taste of natty PB, youll never go back. And to be honest, theres really not much to get used to...the one and only ingredient is crunched up peanuts. sometimes they add salt, and sometimes theyll add an oil, but thas it.

whether PB and flax oil in the same shake are to much fat depends on the amounts of each were talking about. It also depends on how many meals you eat a day, how much fat your aiming for, etc. Generally most meals for most people fall between the 10-20 grams of fat range, so one source will be fine. id just do PB in one shake, and flax (or olive oil, or canola oil, or fish oil) in the next. Mixing them isnt going to provide any benefit.

thnx for the info...as far as loosing water weight i dont see how that could be, because i still kept using a creatine monohydrate while using cytogainer and while i quit using it...i think cytogainer just has too many calories for my needs so therfore adds unnecessary weight is what i was tryna get at.. but u answered a lot of questions i had.. ive never had natural peanut butter so the oil that it has up top, should i dump that or mix it in with the peanut butter ?

Too many words.

Cut out the simple carbs (sugar). This means that you should cut out that weight gainer stuff.

Good diet:

  • High protein
  • High complex carbs
  • Reasonable fats, preferably healthy fats

if thats the case, then you were most likely just getting too many calories once you started taking the cytogainer. either that or its a water issue.

you stir the oil into the PB.

You can have the weight gainer and the simple carbs.... Just so it ONLY after a lifting session and not on non training days. Follow that rule for all simple/starchy meals.
