Whole Wheat vs Grain Bread

Winter

PR Hungry
As you know, whole wheat bread is king compared to white bread, but what about grain breads such as 7grain, 12grain, etc? The grain breads look like they have the white bread middle, but the crust is like whole wheat.

Which is better & has a lower GI?

i just use the fiber as my guide . if you think about it its not a bad rule of thumb .

List the ingredients.
These are the ingredients for a 12grain:

Whole wheat flour, unbeached enriched wheat flour[flour, malted barley flour, reduced iron, iacin, thiamin mononitrate(vitamin-b1), riboflavin, folic acid], water, high fructose corn syrup, yeast, sunflower seeds, wheat gluten, cracked wheat, rye, oats, soybean oil, ground corn, salt, molasses, buckwheat flour, brown rice, wheat, soy flour, soybeans, triticale calcium propionate(preservative), mono- and di-glycerides, barley, flaxseeds, millet, datem, nonfat milk, calcium carbonate, soy lecithin, hazelnut meal, sesame seeds, walnuts, monocalcium phosphate, calcium sulfate.

I bolded the words that they bolded on the label as well.

Each slice has 2g of fiber, 19g of carbs, 3g of sugar, 4g of protein.

whole wheat flour, that's good, and that's the main ingredient

unbleached enriched wheat flour is not that good, it's when they take the flour, take all the absorbable vitamins out of it, and then toss in a handful of chemicals as vitamins that aren't as bioavailable.

high fructose corn syrup is pretty bad stuff

calcium carbonate is calcium that is difficult for the body to assimilate

I wouldn't say that this is a bad choice though, because it is so difficult to find bread that has 5-6 ingredients and unbleached wheat flour that hasn't been 'enriched'. You typically have to go to a health food store, and pay double what you normally would pay.

I would be on the lookout for breads that didn't have the high fructose corn syrup though.

Thanks bro. Its because this bread was cheaper so I decided to give it a try and it tastes a lot better than regular whole wheat, for sure.

I don't know which brand you bought, but Nature's Own is the best whole grain bread around. It does not have the high frutcose corn syrup (killer) that most of the whole grain breads have.
