Why the US healthcare system is fckt: corporate greed

I am banned!
My doc twice ordered a standard hormone panel for me. The nurse asked where I wanted to get it done. Since the hospital is 200 meters from my gym I told her I'd just get it done there.

Bad move. See the attached bill. My insurer actually already paid an ex*****ant amount and they're still coming after me for over 6 times what Quest would have charged.

Luckily I have a very low reported income on my W2 and should be eligible for "charity" assistance. There isn't anything charitable about these large corporate hospitals.

View the bill and be prepared to get angry.

In Japan these tests would be about $25 each under national healthcare.

wtf

The fist med my doc ordered for my stomach cost $1,500.00 retail the insurance will not cover it . HOWEVER if they did it would only cover 47%. So a month of this medicine would cost with insurance close to $ 800.00.
Who can pay that?

Your situation is just more then unthinkable. It is straight out robbery.

In the book Dantes Inferno, Dante said that the hottest places in hell are reserved for american doctors who in a time of moral choice, decided to stick it to the working man.

Hopefully he meant the administrators, those are the folks to blame. The doctors (at large hospitals) have no say over this, the business side pushes for profit over patient care.

doctors have a moral obligation and take an oath to serve and help their fello beings, so when they sell out to big pharma and become peddlers for pils then they will have to answer as well, every kneee shall bow and those sell out docs will get theirs for selling out. greedy bastards.

A good illustration of how insurance actually massively drives up the price of healthcare. When you spread the cost, it's easier to drive prices spiraling out of control.

Contrast how LabCorp and Privatemdlabs (and others), both greedy corporations, can offer services at a reasonable cost when hospitals, insurance companies and gov agencies are not involved.
