Working out a few hours before bed - good or bad?

DEATH to "The Club Boys"!
What do you think? I don't think it would be the best thing to do, but I dunno. I assume that since you are working out a few hours before sleep, that you would only be able to consume a post workout shake; and that would be all the protein for about 6-9 hours right after you nuked your muscles.

I would think it would be better to fuel your body with at least 3 high quality protein meals / shakes after a workout. Or would you be safe to drink a shake with like 40 grams of whey isolate and 30-40 grams of milk / egg protein so that you get protein into your system right away and the slower protein will be recovering your body later on in your sleep?

I might be working out before bed for a few weeks. If I don't, this info is nice to know at the least.

Thanks!

BTW

I was confused as to where I should have posted this topic. It was a toss up between the training forum and diet forum.

Mods, please put this in the diet forum if you feel that it would have been better off there.

thanks.

I always used to do this. I got good results, and it helped me sleep.

i do this and have been for 3 years, come home from the gym have a shake and relax then have a meal then off to bed, works well for me. plus like the other dude said, u sleep so good.

I've done it a few times before.

Sometimes I sleep really well. Other times I'm still too wired to sleep.

I work out at around 7:30 every night and go to bed at around 11:30. I find that sometimes I feel tired during my workouts, however as long as I find good time to eat and relax between my workout and my sleep, I'm normally good to go.

i have to workout around 8:00 PM most of the time because of my school schedule, i like it. I get home, bust down a PWO shake, then try to get a good meal in before i go to bed.

Yeah, I've got the same problem bro. Just do what you gotta do, really.

I prefer to work out in the mornings or midday during lunch, but recent changes in my schedule have forced me to work out late in the evenings. I was scared I wouldn't be able to sleep, but since following my late workouts up with alternating hot and cold shower, 150-200 mgs. of L-Theanine and 5-10 minutes of meditation, I have avoided being too wired to sleep.
