Haven't posted here in a while. After what seems like too long, finally had a visit to a urologist to get some real help. I hadn't been able to get a doc to test my LH and FSH since having a low testosterone level about a year ago. When I first tested, my testosterone was around 200. I am now at the highest I've ever been (680 on most recent labs) and this was after not being tested for almost 6 months. I am also hypothyroid. Anyway, I got my blood results from my local blood work place back. Obviously the urologist will let me know what's up, but I am impatient and wanted to get a jist of what could be going on. Couldn't find the right search terms to find any relevant threads myself. FSH is in normal range at 12.5 on scale of 1.4 - 18.1. LH however is very high coming in at 31.3 on a range of 1.5-9.3 for my age. The levels for a 70 year old are 3.1-34.6, so you can see I'm pretty hig. Waiting on a few other tests to come back including my DHEA, but my prolactin also seems pretty normal at 7.9 on scale of 2.1-17.7

I think that high LH is usually in indication of primary hypogonadism. I'm not sure what effect hypothyroidism can have on LH, etc. You will want to get it retested though to confirm the result.

Thanks for the reply. I'll sure my urologist will do that. It is very highly elevated now. My last testosterone reading was at 690 which is much better than it's ever been, but my free test is still low and has been low since I was diagnosed.

With a Test Level of 200 did you get on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or are you treating it in another way - if so how did you manage to get your test up?

I went about it by trying to fix other hormones. I also did a self administered clomid restart which ended about a month ago. I tested after being off Clomid for about two weeks and then again a month later so I do believe my body did have a restart. However I am not sure of the significane of the LH number. I went to follow up with my urologist, and he said he doesn't know the significance of the LH number. He wants me to see an endocronologist, but after my first experience I am not going back. He said it could be a pituitary problem and that I may need an MRI (what I wanted all along) but he said he'll let the endo make the decision which really ticked me off. He doesn't know about the clomid restart because it was obviously self administered. I have been looking into Clomid's' effect on LH levels but from what I understand, LH is not a number that fluctuates easily. I am now going to another urologist in about three weeks for a second opinion. I am also hypothyroid, so I really want an MRI to rule out a problem in the pituitary.
