This is just my own personal experience: I have done orals (dbol) only 4 times. If we are talking about a bodybuilding only standpoint here I cannot speak. The times I have done these were for strength only events. The results were WONDERFUL, and much more is kept than the myths going around out there IF you actually keep on stuffing yourself with good food and keep on working hard. What you need to do is set up your mind in 2 phases. 1) Eat and train like a freak when you first start, 2) repeat one as soon as the cycle is over.
It is tough to get your mind back into it once off, but if you can just remember to do it once you are off you will keep much more than you thought. I have done test only for strength type events and when the cycle was over I was just mentally not there. Guess what??? I lost MORE after the test only cycle than the dbol only cycle! Dead serious. I guess it goes to show how much your mind plays a part in this.
Now, if everyone in here is referring to bodybuilding only and the effects of an oral only cycle..... I am not sure. My guess is though, if you put your mind to it once the cycle is over it would not be that bad and you won't lose as much as some claim.
This part is my opinion, but that is because I needed to be on a cycle at a time I was traveling by air a lot. I don't know why, but I was paranoid about carrying things with me for a test cycle. I know, I could have just shipped to the hotel, but I did not think of that at the time..... still, I did not have fear of hiding pills and I knew it would be much easier to stuff some in a Mega Men bottle, lol. So depending on your circumstances, yes, I am a big advocate of oral only if need be. Just remember no matter why type of cycle you are taking to have your mind focused on that second part! When it's over!
