23 - Low T - Worried about hair loss

OP, you have Crohn's, something I know all to much about. If you have ever had to take the "other" steroids (Prednisone, etc), your bone density may be compromised, and significantly so. Mine was and that is one of the reasons my urologist recommended testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for me. It stimulates bone growth in men with low T (Effect of testosterone treatment on ... [J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 1999] - PubMed - NCBI).
If you are active and want to enjoy life as you age, consider how the loss of bone mass leading to osteoporosis and brittle bones will impact the quality of your life and attractiveness to which ever gender you favor.
Beyond that, I get your concern. You are a young man facing a significant medical issue. You have Crohn's and have had to deal with that as well. I suspect that you have done what is necessary to address that scourge, weighing the risks and benefits of treatment options. Do the same with hypogonadism and you may find that the potential risk of hair loss pales in comparison to the benefits of stabilizing your endocrine system and all the good that will come from that.
Best of luck.

Hey.

Yep crohns is in check, had a resection (1 foot of large/4 ish of small) in may 2011 and been in remission since.

Took prednisone for 8 months back in 2007ish and 8 months in 2010-2011.

Out of curiosity, do you think those long periods on pred (highish doses too 60mg-80 each time), could have caused the low T. Because honestly I wanna know why I have low T as well lol.

What kind of shots should I ask for?

Also since I'm young, will I still be able to have kids?

Testosterone Cypionate if you are in the US.

Yes, many guys on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) have kids. To be safe though, it would be smart to make a deposit at the sperm bank. Hopefully you can get past your ED to make a deposit

UPDATE

Saw a urologist first because an endo wouldn't see me without seeing them first. Urologist said my one testicle appears shrunken and ordered me some more T tests. And then told me to lift and take zinc, and boost my levels that way. Is that even possible?

FSH: 3.8 [1.0-8.0]
Luteinizing Hormone: 3.7 [1.0-6.7]
Prolactin: 8.4 [2.1-17.7]
Total T: 290 [300-1000]
Free T: 95 [47-244]

So my T has gone up a little since last time (was 264 a month ago, now 290). Everything else appears normal? Isn't it odd that if my total was low that my free is normalish?

Free is just a factor of how much SHBG and Albumin you have. If they are low, more of your testosterone is unbound to those proteins -- which makes it Free. Your Total Test is low though. Taking some zinc and lifting weights is not going to increase it to a normal level for your age.

So is he doing anything else in regard to your testicles? Any treatment of your Secondary Hypogonadism?

Bro you can lift all you want till the cows come home. I have taken a 100 mg Zinc Picolinate/day for an extended period of time and "lifted" and ate whole eggs and red meats almost everyday....
no change.
I never went over 291 ng/dl T.T. and I was on 0.25 mg ADEX E3D...
The only thing I noticed were bigger loads...that's about it.

So I got some of my new blood work back today (still waiting for free levels)

And my total has increased to 341

So:

October 8th
264

November 18th
290

December 10th
341

Whats going on? I haven't done anything different besides take Vitamin D (My level on October 8th was 30 - Today its 42). And maybe been a little more lax on my doses of Imuran (for crohns, but I can't find a connection between it and low T).

I haven't worked out really at all and I'm under a lot more stress if anything (less sleep etc...)

Could Vitamin D be doing this?

Not trying to rain on your parade but an increase of 100ng isn't anything. I went from 349-495...still didn't feel much different. We should be around 7-800ng at our age.

19 year olds should be no lower than 700 ng/dl...imo

OP, why don't you try Nizoral 2 % ?
it washes the DHT out of scalp...guys on cycles told me they were losing hair till they went on that stuff and it started growing back.

If i was bald or balding i would get on so much DHT that my beard would grow a beard! I love DHT, it makes you a man! Hairloss is mostly your follicles sensitivity to hormones and inflammation. Which is partially genetic. I actually wrote about this in another thread. Ill get what i said. It should help you. I would get on TRT with levels like that. no question about it. You can try finasteride but that shit scares me(as you can tell, i love DHT) If you have tried everything to get your levels up then try trt. Is your hairloss male pattern, or is it all over. Crohns could be causing malnutrition and improper absoprtion of nutrients which could cause low T. Your body is obviously in a very high state of inflammation with the crohns and hair loss. I would try to get that in check and if all else fails, hop on the TRT train.

Especially today. Testosterone levels are rapidly declining by the decade. Enviromental pollution, synthetic estrogens in food and the environment, sedentary lifestyle and just plain being pussies. I think those are some of the reasons why testosterone keep dropping and it's scares me.

"DHT is my favorite androgenic hormone. It makes you a real man, gives you a beard, and makes your pee pee grow"- Black Beard :D

I said this before to someone else. Hair is really awesome, and a large part of a man/woman's aesthetic look. You really have to decide what is more important to you though. You can try different drugs that could stop or reverse the alopecia. Personally, having a steel erection, being strong as hell, confident and happy take precedence over anything else(yes even oh so pretty hair) If i don't feel like any of the above, i'm on it, night and day to fix what's behind it. You only get one life, live it to the fullest and take care of your body. You are very sick so it's going to be quite an undertaking but with consistency, dedication and the right information, you will be well on your way to healthier, happy version of yourself, but you might have to throw away your the obsession with your hair, i KNOW how much that sucks and i feel where you're coming from)

Honestly I feel like that stuff makes me lose more hair. I must be sensitive to it because the day after I lose 2x the amount of hair.

What do you base that on? 700 is above average for 19 years old.

I'm sure a lot do. After I did a cycle at 24 I was anywhere from 582-663 ng/dl with low pituitary hormones. Felt way stronger before messing with my system....
had blood labs when I was 19 and I was at top end of range for Free T....

Ya my doctor said that average at 20 years old is 700 + or - 100ng

I've seen labs of 55 year olds with 25.7 nmol/l T.T. levels(741 ng/dl) at my docs office. Now mind you they have higher SHBG, which means less BIO AVAIL. T.

Impressive :D

Today's youth have much lower levels than the old timers. Probably exposure in utero to estrogens or something. Idk but you can almost see the difference in guys of today in comparison to before. Basically, they are more likely to be pussies :D

At 19 when I went in to see a GP for anxiety that was coming on he ran complete labs on me....
I remember it was 4 pm and he took the labs....but I asked him to measure my T as well, in which he did.
I knew something about its role in well being and strength cause I was lifting for years....
Wasn't eating well for months and not training and my Free T came back at 80 pmol/l (range:19-85 pmol/l)
so it was good I guess....very likely at or maybe possible over 700 ng/dl T.T.
I imagine it was higher before I crashed into anxiousness and was eating less and training very little.
