24 Years Old with Low T...why are my doctors clueless?

Hey guys,

My journey into testosterone replacement started when my energy levels plummeted, my sex drive disappeared, and my gains at the gym (I work out 4-5 times a week) stalled. My first trip to my PCP got me my blood work, and my test came back at around 284 (240-800 range or so). Clearly this is far to low for a 24 year old.

He referred me to an Endo who again requested test results. He didn't want to diagnose me as hypogonadic after one test. Here are the results of that test:

Total Testosterone: 218 (241-827)
LH Serum: 3.2 (1.5 - 9.3)
FSH: 2.2 (1.6 - 8.0)
Prolactin: 9.4 (2.0 - 18.0)

He put me on Testim, 1 tube per day...just to see if my body would absorb it. I gladly accepted it without doing any prior research on what the other levels on my test results meant. I felt great for 2 weeks, then I felt like shit. Plus rubbing the gel on everyday was a major pain in the ass, so I researched some other options.

After I started feeling like shit, I went back to the endo. He ordered another blood test and I told him about how annoying the gel is getting. Here are those results:

Total Testosterone: 564 (241-827)
LH Serum: 2.5 (1.5 - 9.3)
FSH: 1.7 (1.6 - 8.0)
Prolactin: 7.8 (2.0 - 18.0)

He prescribed me Test Cyp...100mg every 2 weeks. Looking around these forums and other places, this seems like a low dose.

One thing I've been noticing is that my LH and FSH are on the low end of things, but still in range. My 564 testosterone was after about 2 weeks of being on the testim, so those levels do make some sense to me. My concern is that he is not sure of why my test was so low originally, he literally said "I have no idea".

When I asked him about my lowish LH and FSH levels he said "those don't matter, ignore them".

I am scheduled to have my first injection tomorrow, but I'm having second thoughts. I brought up the idea of HCG and Clomid to my endo and he had no idea what I was talking about.

I'm at a standstill here, because I'm not sure if I want to go on with the injections. I did feel great when my test was where it should be (maybe it should have been even higher), but I'm just not sure why it was low to begin with. I'd like to try a natural solution if that's even possible.

What are you're guys' thoughts?

Im in the same boat, but I have other medical conditions to go along with it, so I dont know why I feel like shit. From what ive learned, your E2 (that you should have had the doc check) is probably rising, which nothing natural really helps. Zinc and Copper can help, but probably not much. A shot every 2 weeks is gonna suck. Its really sad how stupid doctors are when it comes to this subject. Did you have your thyroid checked? You would also think there would be a list of docs all over the us that are knowledgeable, but apparently that does not exist either. The only doc I go to that really knows his stuff is my pain doc. Hell, he is the one that brought up checking my T levels since I was so sick and fatigued. It didn't even cross my primary docs mind.

Just had my first shot today, half a CC.

My doctor checked my Thyroid and everything checked back O.K. The only concern I have is why my LH and FSH are on the low end of things.

I'm going to see how I feel after a month, then check back.

I'm sure your LH and FSH dropped due to the addition of synthetic hormones. It happens. Adding HCG may help as it mimics the LH response.

No natural protocol is gonna help like synthetic hormones.

If you're overly concerned, see Chip, or get another doc. Look for one who specializes in TRT/HRT if need be.

100mg E2W is low, but not unheard of becasue testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) protocols are still new to most docs.

Have you ever done any PHs, OTC test boosters, etc?

Idk if you are too young for Chip but if you aren't that is the route to go. Gel will just drive up your estrogen and make you feel worse than when you started - I have tried it.
