5mg Proscar

Well sad to say but I started thinning/loosing hair in my last cycle. I got a prescription for Propecia from my dermotologist and damn was it expensive in comparsion to Proscar. Well now I'm getting Proscar and my doc. recommended me to take the 5mg tab ed, but I think its an overkill. What dosage do you guys take while on and off a cycle? By the way any particular pill splitter you guys recommend?

Quarter those Proscars. You can get a pill splitter at CVS or Eckerd's for under $5.
These pills will not go into 4ths exactly, because they are odd-shaped; it doesn't matter. The drug has a long half life, anything around 1 to 1.5mg per day will do the trick.

Thanks buffdoc, if on a cycle would you keep it at the same dosage of 1-1.5mg per day? By the way whats your opinion on Dutasteride (Avodart), do you think its better than proscar in blocking DHT?

Well, we know it's a more potent blocker of DHT than finasteride, no question. Whether that translates into better hair protection remains to be seen. I think either would be ok, as long as one realizes that dutasteride has a very long half life.
Another thing that's never been looked at is this: when we are on high doses of test, and our serum levels are quite high, do these drugs keep our DHT lowered enough to make a difference? No one knows at this point.
That being said, I use finasteride on and off cycle (that's the ONLY way to use it), as well as Nizoral shampoo. It ain't hurtin', I can tell you that!

I wouldn't use propecia as your first choice....Try some tropicals first like Nizoral 2% or some Sprio..Dutasteride is better in terms of blocking the majority of DHT compared to proscar but I think it is really expensive..Get a cleanser to clean your scalp..!

Dutasteride is a more potent treatment. Also, Swale - a doctor whose opinion I respect - told me a while ago that dutasteride may be better in terms of preventing effects DHT has at the skin. Presumably, this would result in less acne as a result. Perhaps if someone makes a generic version for internet sale, I will conduct personal research to compare it with finasteride, which I have used while on cycle.
