Ab Pulldowns

I tried the ab pulldowns for the first time today that Slobberknocker mentioned in another thread.

I love these things.

I'm going to do these 1x a week and then Needsize's routine 1x a week...for a total of 10 sets of abs per week.

This should be sweet.

Thanks slobberknocker.

So you found them to be pretty good? i've been considering givin them a try,,, so you just take the rope and put it behind your neck and do it that way?

Yeah, they seemed to hit the obliques as well as the abdominals really well.

I did them at the lat-pulldown machine standing, and I hooked up the rope, and held the rope in front of me and slightly to the side and went slowly down towards the left side, then slowly back up. Then down with the ride side, and repeated for 5x5.

do you hold the contraction when you get down all the way? (does that make sense? haha) and if so, for how long?

Yeah, for the first 4 sets I only held it for a couple seconds.

On the last set I held it for a good 5 or so.

I might lighten the weight a bit next week and hold it for a 5 count on every rep.

Sounds good,,,, i'm pretty sick today (not hung over, just a bad cold), but i'm gonna try and go to the gym in an hour. If all goes well i'll try it then haha. Peace out beans.

Get over that cold, man. I just had one; they're rough sonsofbitches.

i do the at the cable crossover machine using the rope but i kneel down on my knees facing the weight and instead of holding the rope around my neck i hold the ends in my hands and hold my hands tight against the top of my forehead , this puts the weight farther out in front of you and adds more resistance

Boimechanics at work :D
Increase resistive force arm and you have to increase the motive force to move the object. :p

The weight stacks at my gym are fucked up.

I tried it on my knees, but the weights end up smashing into the top of the rack before I get all the way down. The device as a whole is too low I guess.

It's boimechanics

I was just explaining why it is harder to do the exercise DADAWG style.

I am taking a biomechanics class right now, so I thought I would chip in on the thread :D Biomechanics is pretty interesting and you would be surprised who remarkable the human body is in regards to movement. The amount of force that a muscle can geterate is crazy.

Wow, are my abs hurting from doing those pulldowns yesterday.
