a few days ago i walked into the gym focused on doing deads in our only power rack. i went to the locker room to change and when i come out there is someone doing bicep curls in the power rack. the bar plus one 10-plate on each side. WTF. there are curl stations set aside just for that purpose. Then tonight I was squatting in a squat rack. there are four of them lined up in a row. and these two abercrombie-wife beater wearing-150lb-punk kids were doing walking dumbell lunges behind me going back and forth, coming way to close to a guy with weight on his back.(me) come on people have some etiquette for gods sake. I never say anything to theses people but i will shoot some bad loooks once in a while when its deserved.

totally legit gripe!!!
Our gym here at Camp Victory, we get what I call the "Johnny Come Latelys" the guys getting ready to go on their 2 weeks R&R, so they decide to hit the gym 2 weeks out to "Get Buff" before going home. We only have one power rack, but 4 or 5 preacher curl bench's, and the "Johnny Come Latelys" like to hog up the rack doing curls. These same guys like to take 5 minute rests between sets, so I usually just go over, move the bar up on the rack, load up some plates, and just take it over. No one has had the balls to call me out yet, since most of the "johnnys" weight 150lbs, and i'm over 230 now. It kills me seeing guys come in and just do arms and chest trying to get their swole on.

Nothing wrong with that mentality at all IMO...

Just be thankful you have a G.D. power rack at all haha... :D

Don't take that shit. They have to learn proper etiquette somewhere and if you don't say anything, I doubt anyone else will. Just be polite about it and I'm sure no one will care. In fact, most of them will probably secretly be thankful someone finally said something to those morons.

Man, that seems to happen universally anymore, lack of or understanding of gym etiquette. When someone is using a piece, such as a rack for curls when there are stations set aside specifically for that, like Behemoth says, I just politely ask if they wouldn't mind switching out since they can curl over there but I can't squat, dead, whatever over there. Usually the combination of staying civil and body size, plus people can tell you're serious about your training, seems to work most of the time. Also, if people see/hear it, they might learn something too. Good luck.

a couple years ago I was just like those people you described and I was more then happy to change bad habits when some of the regulars told me to. just tell them they need to give you some space because they could get hurt or something...im sure they respect you because of your size they just dont know any better.

most of these kids dont have respect for anyone. the only time i said something to one of them it didnt even sink in. one time someone loaded up the leg press with 100lb-plates, eeked out a few half-ass reps and walked away. then some woman wanted to use it so i went to get the little punk and told him to unload his plates. he said " oh those were there when i got there" and figured he didnt have to remove them. so i ended up stripping it, to prevent a scene in my friends gym. WTF! the owner gave him hell for it next time he came in and i havent seen him since. good riddance!!

This particular situation always irritates me. Let's see, we come to the gym to lift weights but we are too lazy to lift the weights off our equipment when we are done.:sarcasm:

dudes I'm sorry, but when I'm pressing the (2) 25's on the bar it gets a little tiring, I go all out man some of you wouldn't know about it. So give a guy a break fellas.

Absolutely it's a legitimate gripe, this kills me, too. Every gym I go to has someone curling 60 pounds in the only squat rack in the gym.

If you leave a weight out in my gym, the owner calls it out over the loud speaker and turns the music off. If you still don't put it back out of embaressment he goes to the video tape.

we have a sign that reads: "due to increasing concern regarding cell-phone cameras and privacy. please no phones allowed on the gym floor" look around, everyone is on the damn phone. no respect for the owners requests.
