if so where do you go to get diagnosed / treated? an endo? the thing is that i do my testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) through IMT and if I go to an endo i'm worried that they are going to do bloods and get in my business about my test range etc. and what-not since i don't want to do my testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) through them after all the horror stories i hear about how they manage trt. however i need to get this checked out, since on my last blood test my TSH was out of range high at a 6.140. I'm working with a nutrionist and have been eating about 3k calories a day for the past 5 months and cannot gain any weight at all. so that's what made me go through and try to find out if i could have thyroid issues and then i checked my blood results and found that it's high and that's probably the reason i'm not gaining any weight. what do i do?

When your TSH is high that means your not producing proper amounts of thyroid hormones. So your actually Hypo not Hyper.

Basically your TSH is saying make more but the gland is not responding.

That's what I ended up finding out when I was researching exactly what you said. However the thing that confuses me is that why am I not able to gain weight? I thought people that are hypo are the ones that have problems losing weight and the ones that are hyper have problems gaining weight. Or does it not really matter is it just a generalization? It can go either way?

Really can't thank OAK enough for coming through on this. I was really freaking out about this and I don't have insurance and I didn't know what I was going to do, didn't want to go to an endo etc. In my panic I thought I would PM, oak and seriously just a few minutes later I got a reply letting me know he's looking into it, told me which blood tests to get done for my thyroid and to get vitamin d tested, he said he would bet money that I'm low on vitamin d and so I went and gave blood the same day, got my results the next day. Turns out my thyroid levels have improved a bit after starting the dhea/preg cream it's now at a 4.58 (which is still out of the range, high) but, my vitamin D is super low a 23.3 and the range is 30.0-100.0 I don't know all the science behind it but, vitamin D has something to do with thyroid problems as well. So, Todd mentioned that personally he would hold off on the thyroid meds and I agreed so we're going to start with caclitriol injections for the vitamin d first and see if improves the thyroid issue.

I've never endorsed a testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) clinic on here even though I've been with the previous sponsor here and also with IMT. However, I can say after this experience, they are not just another clinic, they don't just take orders and leave you on your own. They really do help you. I can't say enough, really appreciate everything.

I will update this thread later once I start the caclitriol injections and let everybody know how it goes.

Hey man, yeah I am also hypothyroid along with having low test. I'm surprised you never had your thyroid checked beforehand, I've heard in some cases that being hypothyroid could be the cause for a low testosterone count. In my case that wasn't true. I started off with a TSH of 11 and I was extremely hypo, I could just feel my body wasn't functioning properly. At about 6, you aren't in too bad of a position. I'm really surprised you are having trouble gaining weight though, that means that you must have a really damn fast metabolism. I was also vitamin d deficient btw, my levels were at 18 which is extremely low. I take 10k IU's a day of Vitamin D as advised by my hormone doc and it has helped quite a bit. I now have a TSH around 1 which is MUCH MUCH better than 11 lol. If your levels don't improve enough after taking Vitamin D, that's when you may want to reconsider getting actual thyroid treatment. This could be T4, T3, or a combination of the two

That's awesome to hear that vit d helped you so much, hope it will do the same for me. That's what I don't understand if your TSH is high it's supposed to mean you're hypo right? So don't normally people who are hypo gain weight easily and have trouble losing weight? Wonder how come I'm having trouble gaining and if I start lowering my TSH which is what it's like for people who are hyper then am I going to continue having more difficulty gaining weight? Kind of confused as to what's going on with me.

Well yeah, if you are having trouble gaining weight it is most likely because you have a fast metabolism or you aren't eating enough. What does your caloric intake look like? When trying to gain weight, calories are really gonna be the major factor in body composition. Now as far as your thyroid, yes, higher levels indicate hypo. So as you fix your thyroid, your metabolism will very likely get faster. Having a proper thyroid is essential for many other things besides metabolism though, so it's good to be proactive with the treatment. Really I would start to polish your diet and make sure that you are eating more calories than you burn. I have the opposite problem, I was overweight my whole life. Consider yourself lucky

I mentioned I'm working with a nutritionist and eating about 3k calories a day. I'm working with 3J the forum nutritionist and he's the one that mentioned to me that I could have an over-active thyroid (because of me not being able to gain) so that's what made me want to look into it. I can't post exactly what my diet is because I'm paying 3J for advise but, I can probably just say, steak, fish, chicken, eggs every day and decent portions to get to 3k calories a day, eating every 2 hrs. etc.

I don't feel so lucky I feel like I'm putting so much work into my diet and everything and can't gain anything past 162 it's like none of my hard working is doing anything. At least if you were over weight you were able to bring it down? At least you were able to achieve results, think about if you tried to do everything you did but, didn't get anywhere. That's what it's like with me, doesn't matter if it's overweight or underweight it's trying to put in all your hard work to get somewhere but, not seeing any results. Also it's not that great because the fat that I do have is all in my belly / gut, so I have like a beer belly thing going on but, everywhere else I seem lean but, the belly screws up everything.
