I just want to say that you wont die if you hit a vein. Also I am interested in why you switch pins after you hit a vein?
 
You always aspirate for any compound that is oil based.

I aspirated one time and the syringe filled with blood. Just pull it out, swith syringes (If you have ever seen what happens to the end of a syringe after an injection, you'd switch. It dulls somewhat microscopically on the end, but enough to cause more scar tissue), and inject all your blood and test into a new location.

Furthermore, I have seen the consequences of someone not aspirating and something not going right. I can't say whether he was in a vein, or whatever, but he injected and immediately started coughing his ass off for about 5 minutes straight. Coughing to the point that he almost passed out from not getting air amist the dry heaving. It takes one sec and could save you a lot of trouble, frikn aspirate!

I just want to add something here that might save you a pin or some scar tissue.

You would have less scar tissue if when you aspirate and get blood you either push the needle in farther until you dont get blood or you can pull the needle out a little bit until you dont get blood. There is no reason to pull the pin out and stick yourself again..that actually would create more scar tissue. Just leave the pin in and do as I stated...works very easy
 
as for the not aspirating thing def not the message to send to newbs...If "John Doe" has pinned 200 times and never aspirated but says hes fine and never had a prob but then "Mr Newb" does it once on the odds of it must be ok then screws up and injects a vein...if you cant aspirate on glutes and no one will do it for you use a 1" pin and use quads and delts

Hmmm I didn't know injecting properly was stupid. Very interesting, guess I'll just use one needle for all my injections now and not sterilize the injection site. Hell while I'm at it why don't I just buy used medical supplies to save money. Do you consider the stupid fixed now?

Where in GODs name do you people come up with this stupid shit? Have you ever seen a doctor give a shot and aspirate? NO....you haven't! I would tell you why but I'm trying really hard not to be rude.

Don't you get a flu shot every year? They don't aspirate that shit. They jab it in your delt and go. Get an education and stop learning to pin on youtube.

I have seen docs aspirate and in fact it is taught that you should during med school. There is a better chance that you wont hit a vein but there still is a chance. I would rather error on the side of caution. Of course you wont die but you will get sick.
 
i don't know why some guys on here are so apposed to aspirating (injecting properly). It takes an extra 2 seconds and it could prevent death. If people actually believe they could inject an oil based substance directly into their blood system and live every time that's just sad.
 
My father was a pediatrician for 48 years and gave more IM injections than all of us on this site combine.

My brother is also a practicing pediatrician of 9 years.

They NEVER ASPIRATED an IM shot in their respective lives.

Your starting to irritate me with your bs on dying if you hit a vein. Give us some evidence on why you so strongly believe that. I know alot of guys who have done it and they dont die. It would take alot more then 3ccs to kill you.
 
Well some guys on here are getting pretty heated on this issue for some reason.

To each their own, if you don't wanna aspirate fine have fun. If you do aspirate also good. I'm done with this, I really don't care how other people inject to be honest.

Good post. What is the difference wether you inject into a smaller vein vs a larger vein? They both go straight to the heart. Also, in the three hospitals I am involved with, all the nurses aspirate with IM shots. This is a controversial topic. I understand the argument here but alot of guys have injected into veins during IM injections and get "sick" from it. As the study said, there is no evidence for or against it. I still personally believe it is better to aspirate then to not. Just my 02
 
It is better to aspirate, but for someone to actually believe that by injecting into a vein would kill them is pretty comical. I could understand a child thinking this, but for an adult to buy into it, I just gotta laugh......Its not arsenic. Just oil and some test.

Well, when I attend the surgery to see my doc and nurse and have my injection...Guess what? They do Aspirate! Oil based that's why. I suggest Mr 'I know fuck all' do Your RESEARCH before coming out with such fucking bull shit. When did you become judge, jury and executioner? I cannot even be arsed to go into detail on the do's and don'ts re jabbing. YOU have made your own mind up and gone ahead and made up your so called educated shit. :madflip:
